Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Mitchell Strauser

Chargers Falter Late Against Keuka

The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team continued North Eastern Athletic Conference play as they welcomed Keuka to Charger Field. The Chargers dropped a tough game as the Wolfpack won 3-2 in overtime. Three penalty kick goals were scored today. Lancaster Bible's record goes to 2-1-2 and 1-1 in the NEAC as Keuka's record improves to 4-0-1 and 1-0 in NEAC.

The Rundown: After back and forth play for the first twenty-one minutes Lancaster Bible earned a penalty kick at the 21:32 mark. Senior Josiah Groff stepped up for the penalty kick as he buried it in the lower right corner of the net to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. Both teams continued to battle until the Chargers were gave a gift as one of the Keuka players had a obvious hand ball in the box so the Chargers were given another penalty kick. Groff again stepped up and buried the penalty kick at the 41:13 mark. The Chargers held the lead at half 2-0.

Keuka came out hard in the second half and was able to cut the differential to one goal. The goal was scored by Leandro Curran at 52:12, this goal was also a penalty kick. At this point in the game it was a battle of the penalty kicks. For a majority of the second half each team had chances but just could not get it past either goalie. Then in the 85:59 minute Keuka's Edler de Castro tied the game. Each team battled to score and not have to go to overtime but neither could so on to overtime we went. Overtime was back an forth but Keuka was given a corner kick at the 99:23 mark and capitalized on it with Edler de Castro scoring on a header. Groff's two goals give him 5 for the season, sophomore goalie Vann Sutphin had four saves.

By the Numbers: Each team had 4 saves..The Chargers had 7 shots, while Keuka had 17..Groff's two goals today give him 19 in his career, and 3 penalty kick goals on the season..Groff had 4 goals in the two NEAC contest this weekend.

Information Hodge Podge: The Chargers are now 4-3 all time against Keuka...The last time these two teams played the Chargers won 1-0 in overtime of the NEAC Semifinals.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible will travel to Clarks Summit, PA on Tuesday to take on Summit...The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m..Summit is 2-5 on the season.
