The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team was looking for a bit of revenge on Saturday as they hosted Morrisville State in a rematch of last season's North Eastern Athletic Conference Final which the Mustangs won, 2-0, but Morrisville State proved why they are the reigning conference champions and outlasted the Chargers, 1-0 at Charger Field on Homecoming. The loss drops the Chargers to 3-2-2 this season and 1-2 in NEAC play, while Morrisville State is now 4-2-1 overall and 4-0 in NEAC play.
How it Happened: Morrisville State held possession early on and pressured the Chargers and the Mustangs were rewarded for their efforts as the Chargers turned the ball over in their end of the field and Morrisville State's Jamieson McKoy collected the ball and got past a charging
Vann Sutphin and deposited the ball into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season. The Chargers settled down following the goal, but managed just two shots during the first half.
In the second half, Morrisville State controlled the ball well and did not let the Chargers gain any traction on the offensive side of the field. Lancaster Bible had its best chance of the game 13 minutes into the second half when
Jared Steiner found himself alone just inside the box. Steiner fired a shot that was saved point-blank by Morrisville State goalkeeper Rob Larkin to keep the score 1-0.
The Chargers tried to generate offense in the final minutes to tie the game, but were unable to get the tying goal and dropped to 0-4-2 all-time against Morrisville State.
By the Numbers: Sutphin had five saves in the loss and leads the team with 19 saves this season...McKoy leads Morrisville State with five goals this season.
The Coach Says: "We settled in after the goal, but the early mistake shows that we need to be sharp for 90 minutes," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Tom Ardt said. "We had a chance or two, but we need to read the game a bit better and embrace the important minutes of a game. We need to come out on Monday and prepare for the week ahead and play well."
Information Hodge Podge: Morrisville State has won 11 straight NEAC games and hasn't lost a conference regular season game since Sept. 13, 2014 at Penn College...
Josiah Groff's three-game goal scoring streak came to an end, but Groff still leads the team in goals (6), assists (3) and points (15).
