Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Fall to Nittany Lions

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team faced its toughest North Eastern Athletic Conference opponent of the season on Friday night and though the Chargers fought, they ultimately fell to Penn St. Berks, 2-0 in Reading, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in NEAC play, while the Nittany Lions improve to 7-2-1 overall and 6-0 in conference action.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible defense was stingy in the first half as the Chargers did not allow the high-scoring Nittany Lions offense to get a goal. Penn St. Berks had eight shots in the first half, two of which were on goal, but senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Scheuing was up to the task on both shots and made the save each time.

The Nittany Lions came out strong in the second half and finally scored at 58:20 as Lizzie Mummau headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick cross from Brennan Moyer. Just 5:17 later, the Nittany Lions added an insurance goal as Mummau scored again, this time off a feed from Shelby Baker.

The Chargers had a couple of more offensive chances later in the second half as junior Raegan Horst hit the crossbar with a blast, but for the second straight game, Lancaster Bible failed to score and lost, 2-0.

By the Numbers: Penn St. Berks led in shots, 22-2 and corner kicks, 8-0...Scheuing made seven saves.

The Coach Says: "This has been a good week of playing quality opponents and the benefit to that is we not only get better, but get to see what we need to improve on moving forward," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Leah Sipe-McDermott said. "We are still in control of what we want to accomplish this season and we hope to have another shot against Penn St. Berks later this year."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 6-8 all-time against Penn St. Berks...The Nittany Lions have won five straight regular season games against the Chargers...Penn St. Berks now has the inside track to the top seed in the NEAC Playoffs and should they earn the top spot, it will be fifth straight season the Nittany Lions have hosted the NEAC Championships.
