Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Overtime Heroics Spark Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team is in to scoring late-game goals. After securing a 1-0 win on Friday in the 85th minute, the Chargers tied the game at 1-1 with seven minutes to play on Saturday at Wells and then scored 49 seconds into overtime to win the game and improve to 10-4 overall and 9-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible controlled much of the possession throughout the game, but it was Wells who scored first as Amber Welsh scored at 30:30 to give the Express a 1-0 lead. Though the Chargers had chances for the equalizer in the final 15 minutes of the first half and many times in the second half, they simply could not get the ball into the net.

That changed with 10 minutes remaining as Lancaster Bible Head Coach Leah Sipe-McDermott switched the team's formation and put defender Barb Foster at forward. The Chargers immediately began pressing the ball up the field and were rewarded when Foster took the ball up the field and found daylight to shoot and find the back of the net from 20 yards out and tie the game at 1-1.

Lancaster Bible carried its momentum into overtime as freshman Hannah Bernstein drilled a shot that hit the crossbar and found the feet of Raegan Horst who put it in for the overtime winner.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible outshot Wells, 19-5, including 9-3 in shots on goal...Lancaster Bible also had more corner kicks at 11-2...Foster's goal was her fourth of the season, while Horst picked up her seventh goal of the year...Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Scheuing made two saves for her 10th win of the year.

The Coach Says: "This was a tremendous win for the team today," Sipe-McDermott said. "The girls did everything we asked of them. We have never practiced a 3-5-2, I'm not even sure we've talked about a 3-5-2 before, but the girls picked it right up and scored, just a great team effort."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 6-0 all-time against Wells...Saturday was the first overtime game of the season for the Chargers...Wells is now 8-4 overall and 5-3 in NEAC play.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible heads to Morristown, N.J. on Friday to face St. Elizabeth at 1 p.m.
