The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team saw its four-match winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night in Dover, Delaware as the Chargers lost to Wesley, 3-1. The Wolverines won, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20 as the Chargers dropped to 12-15, while Welsey improved to 10-14.
How it Happened: After dropping the first set, 25-22, the Chargers were down, 16-11 midway through the second set, before a late run propelled Lancaster Bible to a second-set victory. The Chargers earned four straight points to close the gap to 16-15, with three of the four points coming on Wesley hitting errors. Trailing 18-16, Lancaster Bible rattled off five straight points to take a 21-18 advantage thanks to an ace from
Lauren Grimm, kill from
Alyssa Bowen and three more errors from Wesley.
Wesley closed the gap to 21-19, but three straight kills from
Ashtyn Bouslog,
Allison Shuey and
Emily Olson gave Lancaster Bible a 24-19 edge and the Chargers closed it a point later on another kill from Bouslog.Â
Lancaster Bible fought off an early deficit in the third set as well and even took a 9-8 lead, before Wesley battled back and took advantage of the set, eventually winning 25-18. Wesley kept the momentum and led, 10-5 early in the fourth set, but the Chargers rebounded and tied the set at 10-10. The teams exchanged points as the set continued, with the score reaching 16-16, before the Wolverines won four straight points and took a 20-16 advantage. The Chargers cut the deficit to two at 20-18, but Wesley hung on and won the set, 25-20.
By the Numbers: Wesley held the advantage in kills at 55-38 and also held the edge in digs at 59-49...Grimm and Bowen led the Chargers with nine kills each, while Bowen also added five blocks...Bouslog had a team-high 14 digs and Grimm added 13 digs...Shuey had 32 assists, while
Natalie Kennedy chipped in with 10 digs.
