Houghton Shuts Out Lancaster Bible

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team saw its modest two-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday as the Chargers lost to Houghton, 2-0 at Charger Field. The defeat drops the Chargers to 9-9 this season, while Houghton is now 10-2-4 overall.

How it Happened: Houghton held much of the possession in the opening 20 minutes and scored its first goal at the 15:32 mark when Andrew Bussey found Landon Sheaffer in the box and Sheaffer put it into the back of the goal for his seventh goal of the year. Lancaster Bible continued to play well in its own end for the remainder of the half and had a few offensive opportunities as well.

The Highlanders continued to control the ball in the second half and though the Chargers played well, they simply could not find the equalizer. Houghton's Ben Munkittrick put the game away with 2:17 remaining as he scored his first of the season off a pass from Bussey who earned his second assist.

By the Numbers: Houghton outshot the Chargers, 18-5, including 7-0 in shots on goal...The Highlanders also led in corner kicks at 7-3...Lancaster Bible junior goalkeeper Vann Sutphin made five saves in the loss...Dan Bewersdorff had two shots for the Chargers.

The Coach Says: "We played a strong second half and competed well," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "Houghton is a strong team, so this is a great experience for us heading into Friday's very important conference game against Bryn Athyn."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-3 all-time against Houghton...The Highlanders are in second place in the Empire 8 standings behind Stevens...The Chargers will advance to the NEAC Playoffs with a win or tie on Friday against Bryn Athyn...Should the Chargers lose, they can still qualify for the playoffs, but may need help from other teams.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible hosts Bryn Athyn on Friday at 3:45 p.m...It is Senior Day and the Chargers will honor their seniors prior to the women's game at 1 p.m.
