How it Happened: Both teams had scoring runs and dry spells throughout the opening 20 minutes and it was the Chargers who finally broke the game open a bit midway through the first half as a pair of
Herbie Brown free throws gave Lancaster Bible a 30-20 lead with 9:33 remaining. Lancaster Bible hit a dry spell following the free throws as the Chargers did not score again until the 5:38 mark on a layup by
Alex Whitt.Â
Back-to-back layups from
Luke Beers and
Brett Cataudella a minute after Whitt's layup gave Lancaster Bible its 10-point lead back at 38-28 and it was all Chargers for the final four minutes of the half. The Chargers finished the half on a 14-6 run, with 12 of the points coming off layups. Lancaster Bible was able to break Penn College's press time and time again, which led to easy baskets on the offensive end and helped the Chargers to a 52-34 halftime advantage.
The Chargers, led by Micah Brown, opened the second half on a 13-4 run in which Brown figured in four of the five baskets, either scoring the bucket or assisting on it.
Herbie Brown's layup at 17:09 gave Lancaster Bible its biggest lead to that point at 65-38 and the Chargers extended their advantage to 74-44 just minutes later when
Jason Kuntzelman added a fastbreak layup on another assist by Micah Brown.
