The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team improved to 2-1 this season on Friday night as the Chargers used a big second half to defeat Gallaludet, 82-59 at Horst Athletic Center. In addition to being 2-1 overall, the Chargers are now 2-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Bison dropped to 0-4, 0-2 NEAC.
How it Happened: Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter as the Chargers led just 8-4 after five minutes of play. Leading 8-5, the Chargers scored seven straight points to grab their first double-digit lead of the game at 15-5 with 2:29 remaining in the opening quarter. Freshman
Caitlin Hickey highlighted the run with a 3-pointer and layup, while senior
Krissy Pennell had the other two points during the 7-0 run.
After leading, 16-11 after one quarter of play, the Chargers' lead shrunk to two, 22-20, after a three-point play from Gallaudet's Kelsey Hudson with 6:42 remaining in the half. Lancaster Bible responded, once again led by Hickey, as the Chargers went on an 8-2 run and took a 30-22 lead with 3:23 left on a jumper from Hickey. After two more free throws from Hudson, Lancaster Bible scored six straight points, capped by back-to-back free throws from
Kirsten Webster, and took a 36-24 advantage. A jumper from Gallaudet's Kori Koss cut the Chargers' lead to nine at 37-28 just before halftime as Lancaster Bible led at halftime for the third time in three games.
Lancaster Bible maintained a double-digit lead for most of the third quarter and blew the game open late in the third with a 12-0 scoring run over the final 2:43. Pennell and sophomore
Courtney Goyak, who played just five minutes in the opening half due to foul trouble, led the scoring run as they combined for 10 of the 12 points. Hickey's fastbreak layup with two seconds remaining capped the run and gave Lancaster Bible a 65-43 lead at the end of 30 minutes.
Gallaudet cut its deficit to 15 points early in the fourth, but another big scoring run helped the Chargers restore its 20-point edge and Lancaster Bible eventually a 26-point lead at 82-56 with 47 seconds to play, before a late 3-pointer by Hudson produced the final score.
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot a season-high 58.9 percent (33-of-56), including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc...Gallaudet shot 33.3 percent (23-of-69) and was just 2-of-8 from 3-point range...Hickey led all scorers with 23 points on 11-of-12 shooting and she also added a team-high seven assists...Pennell finished with 18 points and five assists, while Goyak scored 14 points and grabbed 17 more rebounds...Freshman
Kaylee Boger was huge for Lancaster Bible as she was 4-of-5 from 3-point range en route to a career-high 12 points...Webster finished with seven points and three assists...Hudson had a team-high 19 points and nine boards for the Bison.

Caitlin Hickey was huge for us in the fist half, especially with Courtney being in foul trouble," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "Caitlin took her time and was patient and when she does that, she's a dangerous shooter."
On the Team's Effort: "I thought we played well as a team and having Caitlin shooting like she did and then getting Courtney back in the second half, I thought we really controlled the second 20 minutes," Vanderhoff said. "Krissy's passing and ability to see the floor and Kaylee's big shots were huge for us as well tonight."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 11-0 all-time against Gallaudet...Coming into Friday's game, Goyak led NCAA Division III in total rebounds per game, offensive rebounds per game and defensive rebounds per game...Hickey's 23 points are a career-high...Goyak has a double-double in all three of her games wearing a Chargers uniform...Goyak is averaging 20.7 points and 20.7 rebounds per game after three games played.
