The Lancaster Bible men's volleyball team dropped two matches on Wednesday at Horst Athletic Center, but played well in each of its losses to two quality opponents. The losses move Lancaster Bible record to 3-7 this season.
Stevenson 3, Lancaster Bible 125-16, 25-15, 21-25, 25-9
Stevenson, ranked 8th in the latest AVCA Division III Coaches Top 15 Poll, showed why they have just two losses this season as the Mustangs smashed home 55 kills in the four sets. Lancaster Bible withstood Stevenson's charge in the third set as the Chargers took the third set, 25-21. Lancaster Bible was led by
Derek Bigley and
Joshua Rotz who each had six kills against the Mustangs (10-2), while
Kasey Gentry had five kills and a team-high 11 digs.
Garyd Martin had a team-high 22 assists and three kills, while
Sky Woelkers chipped in with two kills and two aces. David Santangelo led the Mustangs with 14 kills.
Penn St. Altoona 3, Lancaster Bible 125-13, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18
After dropping the first set to the Nittany Lions, Lancaster Bible played its best set of the evening in the second set as the Chargers had 11 kills and took the set, 25-21. The third set was a back-and-forth affair as the neither team could grab a big lead before the Nittany Lions strung together points late in the set and won, 25-22 and then took the fourth set, 25-18.
Gentry had a match-high 21 kills for the Chargers and added 10 digs and two blocks. Bigley had four kills and a team-high 11 digs, while Woelkers had a match-high four blocks. Martin had 28 more assists and
Nicholas Wesley added nine digs.
Caleb Strite had three kills and a block as well for Lancaster Bible.
The Chargers return to the court this weekend when they participate in another NEAC Weekend. Lancaster Bible will take on Keuka on Saturday night at 6 p.m. in Keuka Park, N.Y. and will then face SUNY Polytechnic (12 p.m.) and Wells (2 p.m.) on Sunday.
