The Lancaster Bible baseball team continued its early-season run of good play on Saturday as the Chargers swept a doubleheader from Penn St. York at Charger Field. Lancaster Bible won game one, 13-0 and took game two, 9-1 as the Chargers moved back to the .500 mark and evened their record at 6-6.Â
Lancaster Bible 13, Penn St. York 0 (Game 1)How it Happened:Â The Chargers scored in just two of their six at-bats, but both innings were big ones as the Chargers won for the third time in four games. Lancaster Bible game one starter
Nate Burns was at his best over the first three innings as he posted 1-2-3 innings in each of the first three frames. After the Chargers were held scoreless in the first two innings, catcher
JJ Sanchez led off the third with a double down the left field line. After an out,
Hunter Gray and
Josh Mayer each reached base thanks to being hit by a pitch and that loaded the bases for junior
Justin Taylor.Â
Taylor, like he has all season long, changed the game with one swing of the bat as he deposited the ball over the right-center wall for a grand slam to give Lancaster Bible a 4-0 lead. Burns gave up his first and only hit in his four innings of work in the top of the fourth and the score remained 4-0 in favor of Lancaster Bible through 4 1/2 innings. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Lancaster Bible offense exploded for nine runs and who else but Taylor was behind much of the offensive onslaught.Â
Taylor led off the inning with his second home run of the game to make it 5-0. The dinger was his 10th of the season as he continues to lead NCAA Div. III in that category. The Chargers continued to increase their lead as they scored on an error and a balk to take a 7-0 advantage. A
Braden Elliott RBI single and another Penn St. York error led to two more runs and made it 9-0 Chargers as Taylor strolled to the plate again. He doubled this time as
Hunter Gray and Elliott scored to make it 11-0. After the second out of the inning,
Adam Cohick singled home
Josh Mayer and Taylor to produce the final score of 13-0.

Lancaster Bible 9, Penn St. York 1 (Game 2)How it Happened: Lancaster Bible wasted little time getting its offense going in game two as the Chargers plated four runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by Jenson King's two-run triple that made it 4-0. Mayer singled home Gray in the bottom of the second to increase Lancaster Bible's lead to 6-0 and
Adam Cohick singled home two runs and then scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to give the Chargers a 9-0 lead. Penn St. York scored its only run of the day in the sixth inning as Levi Stein hit an RBI single for the Nittany Lions.

Nate Staffieri combined to scatter six hits over seven innings with Bonick earning his second win of the season. McCreary, the game two starter, struck out four in three innings of work, while Staffieri worked a perfect seventh inning and struck out one.
