Chargers Use Record Setting Day to Beat Giants

The Lancaster Bible Women's Lacrosse team took a break from classes to travel and play Keystone College. The Chargers put the loss on Saturday behind them and came out with a fire and passion to get back into the win column. The Chargers played well throughout the game but really took control of the game in the second half as they beat the Giants, 26-18, to move their record to 3-2 on the season.

How it Happened: The Chargers experienced a little shaky start at the beginning of the game as the Giants raced out to a four goal lead. A timely timeout help the Chargers catch their footing, right after the timeout the Chargers came out and scored their first goal of the game from Junior Alyssa Wesner. Over the next ten minutes the Chargers would score seven more goals from Wesner (2), Myranda Kemrer (3), and Naomi Otis (2). With these goals the Chargers took a two goal lead but the Giants would not go away as would go on to take a 10-9 lead but another goal from Wesner tied the game at ten. The Chargers would score one more goal before the half but the Giants scored four to go into half with a 14-11 lead.

The Chargers came out of halftime with the attitude of that they were not going to let this game slip away from them and they were going to come home with a win. The Chargers opened the half with the first three goals from Otis, Wesner, and Kemrer to tie the game at 14. Though the Giants scored the next goal to grab the lead again, the Chargers were not fazed as they went on another three goal run with one from Hannah Thompson and two from Kemrer to take a 17-15 lead. The Giants continued to play hard and pull within one but the Chargers would score four goals within a nine minute span and take a 21-18 lead with 9:45 remaining in the game. The defense was a major key in the second half of the game as they held the Giants to just four goals. With a dominant defense the Chargers were able to continue finding the back of the net with ease and score five more goals before the final whistle blew. With her 11th goal of the game at the 1:42 mark in second half Wesner reached the 100 goal mark for her career, as she become just the third player in program history to score 100 goals. The 26 goals scored are the most ever scored in a game, as they beat the old record of 21 that was set against Penn State Abington in 2010.

By the Numbers: The offense for the Chargers has been solid throughout the season...The Chargers once again set another program record as they had 42 shots on goal...They held the advantage on ground balls 33-31 and had an amazing 32 draw controls...Before the game the Chargers were sixth in NCAA DIII with an average of 16 draw controls per game...Nicolette Statuti had another solid game in goal with 12 saves...Wesner paced the team with 11 goals and 5 assists...Kemrer and Otis each had six goals a piece, with each picking up at least six ground balls...Thompson and Rebekah Kelley were the other goal scorers...The Chargers were very balanced in the ground ball department with 9 players at least picking up one...The Giants were led by Nina Hodanich with six goals.
