The Lancaster Bible Women's Lacrosse team had one more game before a much needed rest over Easter break. The Chargers faced off against the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg University. The Chargers offense was very balanced in the two halves along with a defense that challenged the Yellow Jackets whenever they came into the offensive zone. The Chargers used the momentum from Tuesday's win to come out with a 14-12 victory, and move their record to 4-2 on the season.
How it Happened: The Chargers fell behind as the Yellow Jackets were able to score the first goal of the game but it wasn't long before the Chargers got on the board with a goal from Freshman
Hannah Thompson at the 23:21 mark. The Yellow Jackets were not fazed though as they got the games next goal to take another one goal lead. However, the Chargers went on a run and scored the game's next three goals from Junior
Naomi Otis and Sophomore
Myranda Kemrer (2) to take a four to two lead. The Yellow Jackets were able to cut the lead to one, but the Chargers would score the next two with Thompson scoring both. The game was back and forth as the Yellow Jackets scored another goal but the Chargers would score two more again with Junior
Alyssa Wesner and Kemrer scoring the goals. The Chargers took a four goal lead into half time.Â
The Yellow Jackets came out firing in the second half as they scored the next two goals to cut the Chargers lead in half. Kemrer would score a goal at the 23:22 off a pass from Otis to move the lead to three goals. The Chargers and Yellow Jackets would battle back and forth with one scoring and then the other scoring, but Senior
Katherine Moran would help the Chargers score two in row with a goal at the 7:22 mark. The last seven minutes of the game were intense and suspenseful as the Yellow Jackets would go on to score the next three goals and cut the Chargers lead to one with 2:52 remaining in the game. The Chargers would get the last goal from
Alyssa Wesner to ice the game and give the Chargers the win.
By the Numbers: The Chargers continued with solid offensive numbers as they had 48 shots with 36 on goal...The Chargers were led by Kemrer who had six goals and two assists...Wesner and Thompson had three goals a piece...Otis led the team with a high of five ground balls while adding a goal and three assists...The Chargers held the advantage on ground balls 15-6 and 19 draw controls...The Chargers were almost near perfect as they cleared 13 of the 14 attempts they had...The Yellow Jackets were paced by Holly Bachman with six goals.
Up Next: The Chargers will have a break for Easter but will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Moravian College for a 4 p.m. game.
