The Lancaster Bible baseball team dropped its second straight game on Tuesday as the Chargers lost to Johns Hopkins, 16-4 in Baltimore, Md. The loss drops the Chargers back to .500 at 8-8, while the Blue Jays improved to 11-7-1.Â
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible opened the scoring in the top of the first as the first two batters,
Jensen King and
Braden Elliott, both reached base and scored on a two-out, two-run double from freshman
Adam Cohick. Cohick took a 2-2 pitch to right-center and gave the Chargers a 2-0 lead with his 11th and 12th runs batted in of the season. Johns Hopkins got one run back in its half of the second inning and then exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a three-run lead at 5-2.
The Chargers answered back in the top of the fourth as
Erich Carroll, the reigning North Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, doubled to begin the inning. Cohick followed with a single to move Carroll to third and
Hunter Gray was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no one out.
Brian Niedergall reached on an error that moved everyone up a base and made it a 5-3 game. After an out,
Josh Mayer reached on a fielder's choice and drove in Cohick from third to cut the Chargers' deficit to 5-4.Â
That would be as close as Lancaster Bible would get as Johns Hopkins scored 10 runs over the next two innings to blow the game open. The Blue Jays finished with 19 hits, while Lancaster Bible mustered just six.Â
