The Lancaster Bible baseball team produced its biggest win of the season on Wednesday as the Chargers defeated Centennial Conference member Muhlenberg, 6-5 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The victory moves the Chargers to 3-5 this season, while the Mules are now 7-3 this year.
How it Happened: The Mules opened the scoring in the top of the second as Michael Struck drew a bases loaded walk and gave Muhlenberg a 1-0 lead. Lancaster Bible junior
Justin Taylor smashed his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the third to tie the score at 1-1, but the Mules responded in the top of the fourth as Robbie Hopes hit a solo home run of his own to restore Muhlenberg's one-run lead.
Lancaster Bible took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth as the Chargers tied the game on an error by Muhlenberg and then took a 3-2 lead on an RBI single from
Adam Cohick. Muhlenberg answered right back in the top of the sixth as Hopes hit his second home run of the game and tied the game at 3-3. The Chargers wasted no time restoring their lead as a
Jensen King sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning scored
Brian Niedergall.
The Mules once again answered in their next at-bat and tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Rava. The back-and-forth game continued in Lancaster Bible's next time at the plate as
JJ Sanchez hit an RBI single that scored senior
Erich Carroll. King then drew a bases loaded walk that scored Cohick and gave the Chargers a two-run lead at 6-4.Â
Muhlenberg got one run back in the top of the ninth, but Lancaster Bible senior Mitch Kuhmer shut the door after that and earned his first save of the season.
Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible had 11 hits on the day...Carroll went 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Taylor and Niedergall each had two hits...King was 0-for-1, but reached base twice via the walk and had two runs batted in and a run scored...Junior

Zack Leonard came in and relieved Burns and pitched two innings...He also gave up two runs, but earned his second win of the season...
Gabe Yoder pitched another scoreless inning and Kuhmer earned his first save.
Extra Bases: Yoder has pitched 5 1/3 innings this season and allowed just two hits and no runs in that time...Taylor is batting .433 this season and eight of his 13 hits are extra-base hits...Taylor already has as many home runs this season, five, as he did all of last season...Wednesday marked the first time in in 11 tries that Lancaster Bible has defeated a Centennial Conference opponent...The Chargers had been 0-10 all-time against the Centennial Conference with nine of those games coming against Dickinson.
