Lancaster Bible Back to .500 After Crushing Valley Forge

The Lancaster Bible baseball team swept a doubleheader from Valley Forge on a chilly Monday afternoon at Charger Field as the Chargers moved back to the .500 mark thanks to a 23-2 victory in game one and a 15-0 shutout in game two. Lancaster Bible is now 12-12 this season, while Valley Forge dropped to 1-19.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible's Hunter Gray got the scoring started right away as he led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run over the left field fence. The Chargers tacked on six more runs after that as Lancaster Bible led, 7-0 after one inning of play. Erich Carroll, Braden Elliott, Brian Niedergall and Tyler Newton each added RBI's during the inning and the inning was capped by Silas Stephens who crushed a two-run home run over the right field wall.

Lancaster Bible scored eight more runs over the next three innings, while Valley Forge got two runs back in its half of the third inning. Leading 15-2 heading into the sixth inning, the Chargers scored eight more times as JJ Sanchez's two-run double highlighted the inning and Jacob Schenck added an RBI single as well. 

Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible pounded 19 hits in game one, led by Stephens' 3-for-4 outing...Stephens also scored three runs and knocked two in...Mark Sheriff was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in...Elliott was 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored, while Niedergall was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored...Schenck was 2-for-2 in game one with three runs scored and two RBI...Newton was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI...Jared Leopold was 1-for-1 with a run scored, RBI and a walk...Lancaster Bible used six pitchers in the game one win with reliever Dillon Nickel picking up his first collegiate win...Tyler Greenly started the game for the Chargers as he went two innings and got five of his six outs via strikeouts...Nate Staffieri pitched the sixth inning and struck out the side.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible once again used a first inning home run to get its bats going as Brian Niedergall blasted a three-run home run to give the Chargers an early 4-0 advantage. The Chargers scored three more times in the second and wound up scoring at least one run in each of their six times up to bat. 

Will Welsh capped the scoring in the sixth inning as he crushed a solo home run over the right field wall that was the final of Lancaster Bible's 17 hits.

Inside the Box Score: Josh Mayer, Erich Carroll and Welsh all had three hits...Mayer was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Carroll was 3-for-3 with three runs scored...Welsh was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI...Niedergall was 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored...Justin Taylor was 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI...Tyler Newton was 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two RBI...Lancaster Bible used a pitcher by committee rotation again in game two as Mark Sheriff earned the victory...Adam Cohick started the game and pitched two innings...Gabe Yoder struck out the side as he pitched a scoreless fifth inning.

Extra Bases: Lancaster Bible defeated Valley Forge three times this season and outscored the Patriots, 73-2...The Chargers are now 36-18-1 all-time against Valley Forge...Lancaster Bible is 6-4 at home this season.
