Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Mitchell Strauser

Chargers Prevail in Tight Game Against Nittany Lions

The Lancaster Bible women's lacrosse team was back in action at Charger Field after four straight road games. The Chargers were happy to be back home and took full advantage of being at home. The game was tight all the way through, but the Chargers were able to find just enough energy at the end to pull out a win and beat the Nittany Lions by a score of 13-12. The win moves the Chargers to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Penn St. Abington drops to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play. With their seventh win today the Chargers have set a new program record with seven wins in a season and they look to continue to add wins with four games remaining.

How it Happened: The Chargers came out with a fire and passion to win this game. It was evident as they scored the first two goals. The first was scored by Rebekah Kelley at the 27:09 mark, and the next scored by Katherine Moran at the 20:53 mark in the first half. Myranda Kemrer picked up an assist on both goals. The Nittany Lions would cut into the Chargers lead as they were able to get on the board at the 17:30 mark, but the Chargers came roaring right back as Kemrer got her first goal of the game to give the Chargers a two goal lead again. It then became a back and forth game as the Nittany Lions scored, and then the Chargers were able to score two of their own. However, the Nittany Lions came right back and scored two more to cut the Chargers' lead to one with 6:49 left in the first half. The Chargers were not satisfied with only a one goal lead and were able to put another goal on the board with Hannah Thompson scoring at the 6:49 mark. Just as it was all first half with the scoring, the Nittany Lions got another goal after the Chargers. No teams scored in the last four minutes of the half as the Chargers took a one goal lead into halftime.

After a halftime talk and a little rest for the Chargers, they were back up and ready to go for the second half. Not even a minute into the second half and the Chargers were already on the board with a beautiful pass from Amber Moore to Kemrer which gave the Chargers their two goal lead back. Kemrer would get another one for the Chargers before the Nittany Lions found some chemistry and were able to score four goals in a row to lead the Chargers by one with 9:22 left in the game. After that run by the Nittany Lions, the Chargers used a timeout to regain their composure and energy to go all out for the last nine minutes. The talk and time to catch their breath during the timeout really helped the Chargers as Thompson was able to even the score at ten just 19 seconds after the Nittany Lions goal. The Nittany Lions however, would be the team to get the next goal and regain their one goal lead with 7:57 remaining in the game. Seeing the Nittany Lions go back up by one really lit a fire in the Chargers as they were able to rattle off four goals in a row with Thompson scoring two, and Kemrer and Kelley each scoring one. The Nittany Lions were not ready to go away just yet, as they were able to score two goals to cut the Chargers lead to one. However, with just two seconds on the clock, the Chargers were able to celebrate a hard fought victory over the Nittany Lions.
