Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Mitchell Strauser

Chargers Run Winning Streak to Four Games

The Lancaster Bible women's lacrosse team has been riding on a high note, as they came into today's game winning three in a row. The Chargers had no trouble today as they were able to beat the Eagles of St. Elizabeth College, 13-5, and push their winning streak to four. With the win today the Chargers move to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Eagles drop to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

How it Happened: The Chargers were able to get out in front first as defenseman Ana Kurashige came onto attack and was able to find the back of the net at the 28:02 mark. That is Kurashiges' first collegiate goal as she is normally on defense. The lead was short lived for the Chargers as the Eagles were able to tie the game at one just four minutes later. The Chargers would come roaring right back as they would go on to score the next four goals in about a four minute span. The goals were scored by Myranda Kemrer (2), Rebekah Kelley, and Hannah Thompson. The Eagles would get one more on the board at the 16:47 mark to give them two and cut the Chargers lead to three. However, the Chargers would get two more goals before the half was over with Kemrer and Thompson each scoring one. The Chargers were able to take a five goal lead into the break.

The Chargers picked up right where they left off, as they were able to score the first four goals after halftime with Kemrer having three and Kelley having the other. With those goals the Chargers raced out to a nine goal lead and were not looking back after that. The Eagles would stop the Chargers scoring run however, as they were able to find the back of the net to give them three goals in the game. The joy of the goal was short lived for the Eagles as the Chargers Katherine Moran would get the Chargers back on the board with a goal just 18 seconds after the Eagles. However, the Eagles would go on to score two more goals and cut the Chargers lead to seven with just under ten minutes left to play. Kemrer would score one more time to give the Chargers and eight goal lead as they would win by the final score of 13-5.

By the Numbers: The Chargers continued to put up solid offensive numbers as they had 36 shots with 26 being on goal...The Chargers forced 33 turnovers today...The Chargers also had a staggering 50 ground balls today which is the second most ever just narrowly missing the 51 they had last year against Waynesburg...Kemrer led the Chargers today as she had seven goals, one assist, and nine ground balls...Kelley and Thompson each had two goals a piece, while Kurashige and Moran had the other goals...Thompson also had eight ground balls...Nicolette Statuti played well in goal again today as she had five saves...The Eagles were led by Ashley Morera as she had three goals...With the win today the Chargers are now 3-2 all-time against St. Elizabeth.
