The Lancaster Bible Women's Lacrosse team had one more conference game in New York this weekend as they traveled to Buffalo to take on Medaille. The Chargers were looking to get back into the win column after losing two straight. The Chargers battled hard, but ultimately fell to the Mavericks by the final of,12-9, moving their record to 4-5 on the season, and 0-2 in conference play.
How it Happened: The Chargers fell behind early for the second straight day as the Mavericks were able to score the first three goals. The Chargers got on the board with a goal from
Alyssa Wesner at the 21:52 mark. The Mavericks then went on to score the next two goals but, the Chargers were able to get on the board with a goal from Wesner less than two minutes after her first goal. The Mavericks scored the next goal but the Chargers would go on to score the next two with both coming from
Katherine Moran at the 11:24 and 10:41 mark in the first half. The Mavericks would get another goal which would be the last of the half for them and the Chargers would get one more as well thanks to
Naomi Otis. The Mavericks would go into the break at half with a 7-5 lead.
The Chargers had the momentum coming into the second half and used that to pull within one of the Mavericks with Wesner scoring at the 28:34 mark. The Mavericks however would push their lead back to two as they got on the board less than a minute after the Chargers goal. After that goal for the Mavericks, both teams played hard and were not giving each other many chances to get another goal on the board. For seven minutes they were battling but ultimately the Mavericks were the first to find the back of the net to move their lead to three goals. The Chargers were not going to let that goal take away all of their hope to pull closer and they were able to put a couple shots on goal but none of them were able to find the back of the net. The Mavericks were able to continue to push the the Chargers and get the next two goals of the game. The Chargers were not going to go down without a fight as they would get back on the board with a goal from
Myranda Kemrer off a pass from
Cheyenne Benson. After assisting on Kemrer's goal Benson was able to score one for herself to pull the Chargers within three of the Mavericks. The Chargers continued to battle hard and try to pull even closer to the Mavericks but, the Mavericks were able to get the next goal and push their lead back to four with 3:12 remaining in the game. The Chargers were not ready to throw in the towel and give up just yet, as Wesner scored another goal at the 2:06 mark. That would be the last goal that either team would get and the Mavericks would win by the final score of 12-9.
