Chargers Edge Express

The Lancaster Bible women's lacrosse team won its first North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the season on Friday as the Chargers squeaked past Wells, 14-13 in Aurora, N.Y. Lancaster Bible is now 5-5 overall and 1-2 in conference action, while Wells drops to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in NEAC play.

How it Happened: Wells scored twice in the first 2:19 to take an early two-goal lead, but Lancaster Bible scored six of the next seven goals and took a 6-3 lead with 18:50 to play in the first half. Junior Alyssa Wesner scored four of the team's first six goals, while Naomi Otis netted the other two. 

Wells worked its way back into the game and trimmed Lancaster Bible's lead to 9-8 on a goal by Andrea Gould with 1:35 to play in the opening half. Lancaster Bible got a momentum boost heading into halftime as Wesner scored on a free-position shot with one second remaining in the half, her eighth goal of the opening 30 minutes.

Wesner scored 1:44 into the second half to give the Chargers a three-goal lead, but Wells scored the game's next four goals as the Express took their first lead since 2-1 in the first half on a free-position goal from Lexie Roberson with 16:08 to play. Just over three minutes later, Otis scored her third goal of the game to knot the game at 12-12 and 4:01 later, Wesner scored her 10th goal of the game to restore the Chargers' lead at 13-12 with 8:52 remaining.

Katherine Moran gave Lancaster Bible a two-goal lead as she scored her ninth goal of the season with 5:49 to play. Wells scored 25 seconds later to make it a one-goal game again, but the Chargers held on and moved back to the .500 mark.

By the Numbers: Wesner finished with 10 goals, the second time she has scored 10 or more goals in a game this season...Wesner also had 23 of the team's 42 shots on Friday...Otis netted three goals, while Moran had the game-winner...Lancaster Bible had 21 draw controls, while Wells had just seven...Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Nicolette Statuti made five saves for her fifth win of the season...Myranda Kemrer and Cheyenne Benson each added an assist for the Chargers.

Extra! Extra!: Wesner now has 53 goals this season which leads the NEAC...Friday's win over Wells is the first for Lancaster Bible in program history as the Chargers were 0-6 against the Express prior to Friday's game.
