The Lancaster Bible women's lacrosse team had their last game in New York for the season as they took on Keuka College in Keuka Park, N.Y. The Chargers came into the game on a high note as they just edged Wells College yesterday to pick up their first conference win of the season. The weather was not what you would normally expect for a spring day in April, but that did not stop the Chargers as they were firing on all cylinders winning, 13-7. With the win the Chargers move their record to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while Keuka drops to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference.
How it Happened: The Chargers coming off a win from yesterday experienced a bit of a hiccup when the Wolfpack got the first goal of the game at the 29;24 mark of the first half. That did not hurt the Chargers though as they would heat up and go on to score the next nine goals of the contest and jump out to a commanding eight goal lead.
Alyssa Wesner got the Chargers scoring started off a pass from
Cheyenne Benson at the 28:52 mark. After that goal the flood gates opened and the Chargers were off to the races, the next eight goals would come from four different Chargers with
Myranda Kemrer having five goals,
Rebekah Kelley,
Hannah Thompson, and
Katherine Moran all having one a piece. This got the Chargers on track and had them playing with a ton of confidence. Even though the Wolfpack would score one more goal before the end of the first half, the Chargers went into the break up seven goals.
The Chargers were off and running as soon as the whistle blew to start the second half. Kemrer was able to pick up her sixth goal of the game at the 27:53 mark in the second half. The Wolfpack did not want to see the Chargers go on another run and really put themselves out ahead so they hunkered down and were able to pick up their third goal of the game at the 25:45 mark, but less than a minute later Thompson was able to add her second goal of the game and put the Wolfpack down by eight goals once again. The Wolfpack did not want to go away just yet as they were able to score two goals in a row and move within six of the Chargers. The Chargers were experiencing a little bit of a let down seeing the Wolfpack start to chip away at their lead so a timeout was called to help the Chargers regain their composure.
The Chargers had some shots coming right out of the timeout but were not able to find the back of the net, even with their good chances it was the Wolfpack that marched down the field and got a big goal to move within five of the Chargers. Each team would go cold for over 12 minutes until the Wolfpack were able to find the back of the net to move within four goals with a little over seven minutes remaining in the game. The Chargers were able to score after a long drought in the second half, with Kelley getting the goal off a pass from Kemrer. That goal for the Chargers shifted the momentum their way as Kemrer was able to pick up her seventh goal of the game off a pass from Wesner, the goal would give the Chargers a little cushion with just about three minutes left to play. Kemrer's last goal gave her seven, which is her new career high as she has had six goals twice this season against Keystone and Waynesburg. The Chargers would go on to win 13-7 and defeat Keuka for the first time in program history.
