Two days after being swept by St. Elizabeth in a doubleheader in Morristown, N.J., the Lancaster Bible softball team hosted the Eagles at Charger Field and was one out away from returning the favor of a sweep, but a late St. Elizabeth rally in game two spoiled the idea and the Chargers settled for a split with the Eagles. Lancaster Bible took game one, 12-9 and dropped game two, 10-8. The Chargers are now 14-17 overall and 5-9 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while St. Elizabeth is 13-16 overall and 4-8 in conference action.
Game 1
Lancaster Bible 12, St. Elizabeth 9
How it Happened: St. Elizabeth jumped out to a 6-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings of play as the Eagles scored four times in the top half of the third inning to break the game open. Lancaster Bible quickly turned the momentum however and scored seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to grab a one-run lead. Trailing, 6-3,
Julia D'Arrigo stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a bases-clearing triple that tied the game at 6-6.Â
The next batter,
Zoie Senn, drew a walk and as she reached first base, took a turn like she was heading towards second base. The pitcher turned, after receiving the ball from the catcher, and threw to try and get Senn out. As she did, D'Arrigo took off for home plate and scored to make it 7-6 in favor of Lancaster Bible. Senn was eventually tagged out, but not before D'Arrigo gave the Chargers their first lead of the game.
Lancaster Bible added a run in the fourth on an RBI triple from
Ali Morton, but St. Elizabeth scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth to re-take a one-run lead at 9-8. The Chargers responded once again in their half of the inning as Morton singled home Senn to tie the game and
Samantha Denson hit a sacrifice fly that scored

Lancaster Bible scored four more times in the second inning highlighted by D'Arrigo's two-run double. Denson added yet another sacrifice fly, while Burkholder also had an RBI single. Lancaster Bible maintained its four-run lead into the seventh inning and the Chargers got the first two outs of the inning with relative ease, but St. Elizabeth put the next three batters aboard thanks to an error and back-to-back singles. With the bases loaded, Danesha Triplett hit a three-run double that cleared the bases and trimmed Lancaster Bible's lead to one at 8-7. An intentional walk, followed by a walk, loaded the bases for Sharolin Sanders.
