Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Late Goals Stun Chargers at Cairn

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team played with a 1-0 lead for 49 minutes on Tuesday at Cairn University and was just seven minutes from a victory when it all vanished. The host Highlanders scored twice in 40 seconds, stunning the Chargers and send them to their second straight defeat. The Chargers are now 1-3 this season, while the Highlanders improved to 3-2-1.

How it Happened: Cairn controlled play early in the first half as the Highlanders recorded the game's first five shots, but the Chargers began to find their footing and took the next five shots and earned the next two corner kicks. The teams began to trade possessions back and forth, but the Chargers finally broke through as Marco Patz scored his first goal of the season to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead at the 34:45 mark.

The game stayed 1-0 through halftime and deep into the second half as the Highlanders began to control more and more of the play. With just under seven minutes to play, the ball was tipped around the top of the box in front of Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Thiago Naque and found the foot of Joey Weaver who deposited his first goal of the season into the lower left-hand corner past a diving Naque.

Just 40 seconds later, at 83:49, Cairn's Zack Nelson got behind the Chargers' defense and dribbled down the left side of the field before finding the back of the net for his second goal of the year.

Lancaster Bible managed one more shot in the final minutes of the game, but it was turned away by Cairn goalkeeper Mark Heater and the Chargers were sent to their third road defeat of the season.
