The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team won its third straight game on Saturday as the Chargers defeated Morrisville State, 2-0 in Morrisville, N.Y. It was the third straight shutout for the Chargers who are now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Morrisville State drops to 2-3-1, 1-2 NEAC.
How it Happened: Morrisville State recorded a shot in the opening minute of the game, but Lancaster Bible took over from there as the Chargers produced eight shots and four corner kicks over the next 24 minutes. Despite the offensive attack, the Chargers came away empty in the first half as the teams went into halftime scoreless.
Lancaster Bible continued to control play early in the second half and 9:58 into the second frame, the Chargers were rewarded with their best chance as
Maddie Dionne worked her way into the box and was taken down and the Chargers earned a penalty kick opportunity. Junior
Raegan Horst stepped up and redeemed herself from an earlier miss this season as she put the Chargers ahead 1-0.
Just over two minutes later,
Michaela Ragsdale collected a ball outside the top of the box and drilled home her first-ever collegiate goal to double Lancaster Bible's lead, 2-0.
Morrisville State never mounted a serious counter attack as the Chargers held on for their third consecutive clean sheet.
By the Numbers: Horst's goal was her second of the season...Lancaster Bible outshot Morrisville State, 21-5, including 8-3 in shots on goal...The Chargers had 11 corner kicks, while the Mustangs had two...Senior goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Scheuing made three saves for her third shutout of the season and 28th of her career.
The Coach Says: "Today was a great win," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Leah Sipe-McDermott said. "We wanted to get a goal in the first half as we were going into the wind, but just couldn't get one to go in. We haven't played in wind like that yet this season, but I was very happy with how the girls adjusted and kept the ball on the ground."
"Our outside backs did a great job today of working their way into the play," Sipe-McDermott said. "It really helps our offense when they can join the play and contribute offensively."
"It's always great to win on the road, especially on these long New York weekends," Sipe-McDermott said.
