Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Tigers Clip Chargers in Overtime

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday as the Chargers lost in overtime, 2-1 to SUNY Cobleskill. The Fighting Tigers scored 2:15 into overtime and improved to 4-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Chargers dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in conference action.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible got on the board first as Nathan Recalo worked the ball into the top of the box and chipped the ball to sophomore Brendon Dooley who was able to slide the ball past SUNY Cobleskill goalkeeper Paul Martini and give the Chargers an early advantage.

SUNY Cobleskill answered right away as the Fighting Tigers kicked up the pressure and were rewarded 4:43 after Dooley's goal with a goal of their own off the foot of Mame Amar. Amar gathered the ball off a pass and scored up and over Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Vann Sutphin.

Though each team had scoring chances over the next 70 minutes of regulation, neither team could find the back of the net and the game required overtime. In the first overtime, Lancaster Bible had an early opportunity at the top of the box, but was unable to convert and SUNY Cobleskill went the other way. After the Fighting Tigers worked their way up the field, Corey Johnson threw the ball in towards the goal and it was deflected away by Sutphin, but the ball found the foot of Khadim Diba who shot the ball up and over Sutphin and the Chargers' defense and into the net for the game-winner.

By the Numbers: Dooley's goal was his third of the season...SUNY Cobleskill outshot the Chargers, 9-8, but Lancaster Bible held the edge in shots on goal at 4-3...Lancaster Bible had four corner kicks, while the Fighting Tigers managed just one.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 5-1 all-time against SUNY Cobleskill...The Fighting Tigers got three cards in the final 10 minutes of the game, including a red card which was assessed to the bench...Saturday was the first home loss of the season for the Chargers.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible hosts Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference game.
