The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team faced a familiar foe on Saturday as the Chargers traveled to Houghton, N.Y. to face the Highlanders and though they finally scored, the Chargers once again fell to Houghton, this time by a score of 3-1. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-2 this season, while Houghton improved to 2-0.
How it Happened: The teams battled back and forth during the opening 20 minutes and Houghton got on the board first on a goal by Cassie Pensyl at the 23:35 mark. The score remained the same through halftime, but both offenses woke up in the opening minutes of the second half as the host Highlanders scored twice in 1:01 to increase their lead to 3-0.Â
Lancaster Bible answered right back just over five minutes later as
Abi Brady scored her second goal of the season off of a pass from
Alyssa Wesner to cut the Chargers' deficit to one. The Chargers continued to have chances in the second half and earned a penalty kick late in the game, but
Raegan Horst's opportunity went wide and Houghton hung on for the two-goal victory.

The Coach Says: "We played well today," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Leah Sipe-McDermott said. "The first goal was a bit of miscommunication by our defense and Kaitlyn, but there wasn't anything they could do about the second goal, as it was a very nice play by Houghton. After we went down, 3-0, we completely changed the momentum and Alyssa had a great pass to Abi on our goal. Our effort was completely different, in a positive way, from Thursday's game and the girls went all-out for 90 minutes. I couldn't ask anything else of the team today and I'm happy with their effort. We are excited to begin NEAC play on Thursday and to get started with our conference schedule."
