The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team won its second straight game on Tuesday as the Chargers used a big second half to defeat Penn College, 70-54 at Horst Athletic Center. The back-to-back wins are the first for the Chargers this season as the team improved to 4-7 overall and 4-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Penn College is now 3-8 overall and 1-5 in conference action.
How it Happened: The teams opened the game by going on 5-0 runs as the Chargers took an early 5-0 lead, only to see it disappear in 33 seconds as the Wildcats knocked down a 3-pointer and got a jumper from Marquis Delgado. The teams continued to settle in, but it was the Chargers who began to have the upper hand, as Lancaster Bible used a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead with 12:18 to play in the opening half. Freshman
Luke Beers drained a 3-pointer to get the run started, that
Bill Livezey and
Bryce Reed capped with back-to-back layups.
Penn College answered right back and scored the next eight points en route to a 17-16 lead. The teams went bucket-for-bucket for the rest of the half and Penn College took a 34-32 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Lancaster Bible took control of the game immediately in the second half as the Chargers went on a 15-2 run over the first 4:28 and opened up a 47-36 lead after two free throws from
Quentin Davis. After a Wildcats bucket, Lancaster Bible went on another 11-0 run and put the game away. Five different players scored during the 11-0 run, including Livezey, Reed,
Alex Whitt,
Austin Brown and
Jason Kuntzelman.
Penn College would get back to within 14, but Lancaster Bible answered every challenge and secured its first winning streak of the season.

Zach Filzen said. "We played our game to get that second half run started, they missed some shots and we closed well on their shooters and that really propelled us."
On Herbie Brown's Play: "He is a steady, calming force for us," Filzen said. "He is just a very good player and while he knows there are things he can improve on, he can just really play basketball and the guys look to him to lead."
On the Rest of the Week: "We need to keep building and improve as best we can," Filzen said. "Our non-conference games revealed everything that we struggle with and we know we have lots of things to improve on. Tonight is a big win and we need to keep grinding with tough games against St. Elizabeth and Penn St. Abington to end the week."
