The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team opened its 2017 campaign on Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va. and the Chargers, despite playing well for parts of each match, dropped two matches. Lancaster Bible lost to NCAA Division II King (Tenn.), 3-1 and then fell to host Eastern Mennonite, 3-0 in the nightcap. A recap of each match is below.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible played well in three of the four sets, including the opening two which the teams split...The Chargers trailed 23-20 in the first set, but battled back to tie it at 23-23, before falling 26-24...The second set was tied at 22-22, but Lancaster Bible won the final three points to even the match at 1-1...The Chargers had just four kills against seven errors in the third set as King crushed the Chargers, 25-10...Lancaster Bible overcame a big deficit in the fourth set, but could not tie the match late in the set and lost 25-23.
By the Numbers: Four players had double-digit kills for the Chargers including freshman
Kole Horst who had 12 kills and seven digs in his first collegiate match...
Kasey Gentry also had 12 kills to go with his nine digs, while Derek Bigly had 11 kills...
Daniel Kreider had 10 kills and freshman
Jacob Faust added eight kills and six digs...Freshman
Kaleb Ansell had 46 assists in his first collegiate match...Lancaster Bible had 54 kills.

How it Happened: Eastern Mennonite controlled the match from the opening serve as the Royals led in kills, 39-26 and digs, 32-16...The Royals took sizable leads in each set, though the Chargers had a positive hitting percentage in each set.
By the Numbers: Gentry led the Chargers with nine kills, while Bigley and Faust each had four kills...
Sky Woelkers added three kills, while Ansell had 13 more assists.
