The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team lost its second straight game and for the third time in four games on Sunday as the Chargers dropped a 74-68 decision to Wells in Aurora, N.Y. The loss drops the Chargers to 7-10 overall this season and 7-5 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Express improved to 12-6 overall and 9-2 in conference play.
How it Happened: The Chargers quickly put Saturday's tough loss behind them and opened Sunday's game on a 7-1 run capped by sophomore
Jason Kuntzelman's 3-pointer 1:24 into the contest. Wells worked its way back into the game and the teams began a back-and-forth that would last the rest of the game. With the game tied at 28-28, junior
Bill Livezey knocked down a jumper with 3:54 left in the half to give the Chargers the lead.Â
Livezey's jumper began a 7-0 run that ended with senior
Javon Cole's three-point play. Cole stole the ball, raced down the floor and converted the layup and adjoining free throw to give the Chargers a 35-28 advantage. Lancaster Bible continued to lead and
Herbie Brown's free throws with 33 seconds left gave the Chargers a 40-35 lead they would carry into halftime.
For all that went Lancaster Bible's way to begin the first half, it was Wells who had immediate success in the second half as the Express opened the half on a 7-0 run over the first 2:10 and took a 42-40 lead on two free throws from Vaughndell Brantley. Freshman
Brett Cataudella tied it for Lancaster Bible two possessions later, but the Express took off again and used a 10-0 run over just a 1:57 to take a 52-42 advantage with 15:01 to play.
Wells would grow its lead to as many as 11, but Lancaster Bible slowly chipped away its deficit and a pair of Herbie Brown free throws with 6:18 remaining cut the Wells' lead to just one, 63-62. Brown tied the game at 65 just over three minutes later as he hit one-of-two with 2:49 to play.
Herbie Brown was at it again a minute later as his three-point play knotted the game at 68 with 1:45 remaining. Unfortunately for the Chargers, the three-point play would be Lancaster Bible's final points of the contest as Wells scored on its next two possessions and the Chargers came up empty. Rich Ross sealed the win with two free throws with 13 seconds remaining, sending the Chargers home from a New York weekend winless.

The Coach Says: "We played much more like a unit today," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Zach Filzen said. "We made some plays and played tough together. Ross made a few plays down the stretch and he's as good as they get in this conference. We missed a few chances in the final minutes, but we were right there and can learn some good things from today."
On the remaining games this season: "We have eight regular season games left and we still have time to get it going," Filzen said. "We've been in almost every game this season, we've just got to find ways to win. We need to shoot the ball better and pay attention to details on both ends of the floor."
On Monday's practice prior to Tuesday's tilt with St. Elizabeth: "We need to have a good practice on Monday, focus and pay attention to detail," Filzen said. "There is a direct correlation for this team between good practices and good games and bad practices and bad games. We need to have a good practice on Monday."
