Opportunistic Chargers Down Bryn Athyn, 2-0

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team won its second straight game on Saturday, defeating Bryn Athyn, 2-0 in Bryn Athyn, Pa. The victory improves Lancaster Bible back to the .500 mark at 6-6-2 overall and the Chargers are now 3-1-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Bryn Athyn fell to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

The Big Moments:
-After Lancaster Bible had a shot and two corner kicks in the first 6:30 of the contest, senior Edward Bills gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead at the 6:37 mark, as he headed in a crossing pass from sophomore Joel Hughes
-Bryn Athyn had nine shots in the opening 45 minutes, including four shots on goal, but Lancaster Bible senior goalkeeper Thiago Naque was up to the task, making four saves
-The Lions had an early shot and corner kick chance in the second half, but it was the Chargers who made the most of their offensive chance, as junior Caleb Nelson doubled Lancaster Bible's lead to 2-0 with a goal at 56:55...Bills picked up the assist on Nelson's goal.
-Both teams had seven shots in the second half, but the Chargers turned away the Lions and kept them out of key scoring areas

By the Numbers: Bryn Athyn outshot the Chargers 16-13, but each team had five shots on goal...The Chargers held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks...Naque made five saves for his first shutout of the season...Freshman Rama Mugisha led the Chargers with four shots.

The Coach Says: "The effort today was strong pretty much the whole match," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "Defensively, our guys commanded the box and won the aerial battle consistently, and we had some great movement up top, to break out and create some fantastic looks. Credit to the whole team for an outstanding effort. This is huge for us, as we head into the home stretch."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 4-1-1 all-time against Bryn Athyn...The Chargers defeated Bryn Athyn, 2-0 last season as well...Naque's shutout was the third of his career...The Chargers are now 3-4-1 on the road this season...Lancaster Bible has three wins at both home and on the road...Bills now has 24 career goals and is tied for 16th on the all-time list in program history with Rich Hurlbert (1978-81)...In case you missed it, Head Coach Tom Ardt was the guest on this week's Horse with No Name Podcast.
