Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Clinched

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team punched its ticket to the North Eastern Athletic Conference Playoffs with a 4-3 victory over Wilson on Wednesday in Chambersburg, Pa. The Chargers improved to 9-8-2 overall and 3-1-1 in NEAC play. Even with a loss this coming Saturday against Penn St. Abington, the Chargers would still have a better NEAC South Division record than Gallaudet, and thus have clinched a playoff spot. Wilson dropped to 6-8-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

The Big Moments:
-Junior Caleb Nelson opened the scoring for the Chargers, scoring at 20:11 to give Lancaster Bible a 1-0 lead
-Senior Edward Bills doubled Lancaster Bible's lead just 4:10 later as he noticed the Wilson goalkeeper out of position and chipped it up and over the goalkeeper from 35 yards out and into the back of the net
-Wilson began controlling the game soon after Bills' goal and was finally rewarded with its own goal at 44:21 when Ollie Perry cut Wilson's deficit to one
-The Phoenix continued to control play after halftime as well and earned a penalty kick at 56:55 after a foul in the box…Kevin Lysaght converted the chance to knot the score at 2-2
-Just 3:46 later, Luis Cevallos took a pass from Aaron Russ and slipped the ball under a diving Thiago Naque to give Wilson a 3-2 lead
-Lancaster Bible pressed for the equalizer and finally got it at 78:52, when Nelson scored his second goal of the game
-Just over two minutes later, Bills netted his second of the game to give the Chargers a 4-3 lead and sent the Lancaster Bible bench into a frenzy
-Wilson had chances in the final minutes to tie the game, but the Chargers defense hung strong and earned the victory

By the Numbers: Wilson outshot Lancaster Bible, 22-9, including 12-6 in shots on goal…Nelson now has nine goals this season and leads the Chargers, while Bills has six goals…Naque made nine saves for the Chargers and is 7-4 this season between the pipes.

The Coach Says: "What an unbelieveable effort from the guys to get back in the game after giving up a two-goal lead," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "Caleb and Eddie were brilliant today leading our attack, and our backline stood up to their aggressive push down the stretch. Thiago had three really good saves as well for us today. Wilson was good today, but we were able to find a way to win. Obviously we need to be more composed with a lead, and continue to defend in all thirds of the field. We are thankful for his result, and have two days to prepare for our final regular season match."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 3-0 all-time against Wilson…The Chargers defeated the Phoenix, 3-0 last season in Lancaster…Should the Chargers defeat Penn St. Abington on Saturday, they will host a NEAC Quarterfinal on Tuesday, Oct. 31…If Lancaster Bible loses, many scenarios must be gone through to determine where and who the Chargers will play on the 31st...The win was the 66th in the career of Head Coach Tom Ardt and he is now the all-time winningest coach in program history, passing Phil Nelson who had 65 from 1988-93...Bills now has 11 game-winning goals in his career.
