The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team faced a familiar opponent on Tuesday in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Quarterfinals, unfortunately for the Chargers, Gallaudet seems to be the one team in the NEAC Lancaster Bible just can't beat. That cruel fact reared its ugly head again on Tuesday as the Bison defeated the Chargers, 3-1 in Washington, D.C. and ended Lancaster Bible's season. The Chargers lost, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22 and finish the season 12-20, while Gallaudet improved to 17-15.
1st Set Highlights:
-The opening set went back-and-forth, with the Chargers taking a 17-15 lead after two straight Gallaudet errors
-The Bison won the next three points to grab a one point edge, but the Chargers took the next two points to regain the lead at 19-18
-Gallaudet won five of the next six points for a 23-20 lead and though Lancaster Bible cut it to 23-21, the Bison won the final two points to take the opening set
2nd Set Highlights:
-Gallaudet jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the second set after winning four straight points
-With the set tied at 13-13, Lancaster Bible rattled off five straight points, four of them coming via the kill
-The Chargers maintained their lead the rest of the set and won the final three points, the last coming on a kill from Ashtyn Bouslog
3rd Set Highlights:
-The Bison raced out to leads of 4-0 and 10-3 early in the third set
-Lancaster Bible clawed back into the set and eventually trailed by just one, 16-15 after another kill from Bouslog
-The Chargers closed their deficit to one on five separate occasions down the stretch, but couldn't get over the hump and Gallaudet sealed the third set with a kill from Karita Lewis
4th Set Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible won the first point of the fourth set, but Gallaudet took the next nine, to open up an eight-point lead
-Gallaudet won seven more straight points later in the set for an 18-6 lead and eventually led, 19-7 after another kill from Lewis
-The Chargers never quit however and won seven straight points to close the gap to 19-14
-After Gallaudet took a 22-15 lead, Lancaster Bible strung together five more points and trailed by just two at 22-20
-The Chargers fought off two match points and made it 24-22, but a service error gave Gallaudet the match and ended the Chargers' season
By the Numbers: Gallaudet had 53 kills, while the Chargers had 39...Lancaster Bible had 62 digs, while the Bison had 68...The Chargers had a 5-4 edge in aces, but Gallaudet had a 9-6 advantage in blocks...Junior Hannah Gipe and Bouslog each had 10 kills for the Chargers...Senior Myranda Kemrer had 18 digs and with her 14th dig, became the all-time program leader in digs for a career with 1,779...Kemrer also added four aces, while sophomore Allison Shuey had 32 assists, four blocks and four digs...Freshman Bekah Roberts capped her first season with five kills and five blocks.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-11 all-time against Gallaudet...Kemrer finished her career with 1,783 digs and had 504 this season, the third-most for a single season in program history...Gipe finished with a team-high 251 kills, while Bouslog was right behind her with 250...Roberts finished with 87 blocks this season, the ninth-most in a single season in program history and her 65 block assists are the most in a single season in Lancaster Bible history...Shuey finished the season with 660 assists and her 56 block assists are third-most in a single season in program history.
