The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team cracked the win column for the first time this season with a 72-60 victory over Centenary on Saturday in the team's first game of the Morgan Stanley (Easton Office) Tip-Off Tournament held at DeSales University. The Chargers are now 1-1 this season, while the Cyclones dropped to 1-1. Lancaster Bible will face the host Bulldogs in Sunday's championship game at 4 p.m.
1st Half Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible jumped out to a 7-2 lead over the first 3:34 of the contest, capped by two free throws from junior Courtney Goyak
-The Chargers expanded their lead to 13-4 after a three-point play from senior Kirsten Webster...Webster converted a layup, was fouled and hit the adjoining free throw
-Lancaster Bible took a 20-8 lead with 3:02 remaining in the first quarter, as sophomore Caitlin Hickey knocked down a 3-pointer
-Some late points by Centenary cut its deficit to 10, 21-11 after the opening 10 minutes of play
-The second quarter was lower scoring than the first, as the Chargers held just a 24-20 lead with 5:52 left in the first half
-The Chargers regained an eight-point lead thanks to a layup from Hickey with 2:46 to play, but the Cyclones cut the Lancaster Bible lead to six, 34-28 at halftime
2nd Half Highlights:
-Midway through the third quarter, Lancaster Bible led just 42-37, but the Chargers used an 11-0 run to close out the quarter and took a 53-37 lead after 30 minutes of play
-Sophomore Kaylee Boger knocked down two 3-pointers during the 11-0 run, as the Chargers held the Cyclones scoreless over the final 4:29 of the quarter
-Lancaster Bible led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter and late buckets by Centenary made the final score look closer than the game actually was
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible was 27-of-63 (42.9 percent) from the field and 12-of-16 from the free throw line...Centenary shot just 22-of-60 (36.7 percent) from the floor, including 3-of-12 from 3-point range...Lancaster Bible also held a 41-34 edge in rebounds...Webster had a game-high 24 points, just one shy of her career-mark, while also adding four assists and four rebounds...Junior Courtney Goyak had 15 points and grabbed a game- and season-high 22 rebounds...Hickey had 13 points to go with two steals...Boger had nine points and three assists, while freshman Leah Steiner had six points and seven rebounds and sophomore RuthAnn Hostetler had five points and four rebounds.

Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "It's always nice to get the first one of the season. I thought we came out strong, but got into some foul trouble. We allowed them to come back into the game a bit, but we kept fighting and never gave up the lead after halftime, which I was pleased with. We moved the ball well and Kirsten did a good job of leading this group and attacking the paint."
Information Hodge Podge: This was the first-ever game between the two schools...Webster's career-high of 25 points came on Feb. 22, 2016 against Penn College...The 22 rebounds for Goyak mark the 19th time in her collegiate career that she has collected 20 or more rebounds in a game.
