It took 20 minutes to fine tune, but what the Chargers orchestrated in the second half of Tuesday night's home opener against Wilson was a thing of beauty, as the Chargers outscored the Phoenix, 55-19 in the second half and defeated Wilson, 97-57 to open North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Leading by just four at halftime, Lancaster Bible owned every inch of the floor in the second 20 minutes and improved to 3-1 overall this season and 1-0 in NEAC play. The Phoenix dropped to 3-2 this season and 0-1 in conference action.
How it Happened: Both teams took their time getting acclimated to Horst Athletic Center on Tuesday, as the Chargers led just 4-2 three minutes into the game after a bucket from junior Christo Majok. Lancaster Bible eventually trailed 8-6 a few minutes later, but put together a 12-2 run, which junior Quentin Davis put an exclamation point on with a thunderous dunk to give the Chargers an 18-10 lead with 12:49 to play in the opening half.
A Wilson timeout followed the Davis dunk and the Phoenix came out a different team, going on a 17-6 run over the next six minutes to grab a 27-24 lead after a layup from Ian Hess at 6:08. Sophomore Luke Beers knocked down two 3-pointers over the next 1:13 to give Lancaster Bible a 30-29 advantage and the Chargers eventually led 42-38 at the break after a late layup from Davis.
Wilson cut the Chargers' lead to two at 44-42 with 18:25 after a jumper from Keion Adams who would eventually score the first 11 points of the first half for the Phoenix, but it would be as close as Wilson would get the rest of the game. The Chargers used a 13-4 run over the next 3:48 to build a 57-46 lead, but Wilson hung around a bit longer, closing the gap to eight, 60-52 after a three-point play from Zachary Powell.Â
Over the next 5:40, Lancaster Bible strung together a 22-2 scoring run that saw just about everything the Chargers can throw at an opponent. From getting to the basket, hitting 3-pointers, getting to the free throw line and more rim-shaking dunks, the Chargers pieced together some of the better team minutes in two seasons. Six different players scored during the run, including freshman Britton Beachy and junior Alex Whitt.Â
The Chargers continued to pour it on, and finished the final 4:25 on a 10-0 run that ended with the program's first 40-point win in almost two years.

The Coach Says: "Though we were ahead at halftime, we knew we hadn't played particularly well in the first half," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Zach Filzen said. "We weren't great defensively, and just didn't have much cohesiveness on either end of the floor. In the second half, we moved the ball much better, got back to the game plan, and played team ball."
On Davis' Play: "Q worked hard this summer and it shows," Filzen said. "He is talented and when he does what he knows and doesn't overthink, good things happen. I thought our guards played tremendously tonight and were able to find open players, Quentin included, for great looks."
