Chargers and 'Cats Ready for NEAC Semifinals

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team is in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Semifinal Round for the third time in four seasons and will battle SUNY Poly on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a chance to return to the NEAC Final for the first time since 2014. The Chargers and Wildcats did not play one another during the regular season and haven't played since a regular season matchup in 2016.
 
Penn College will take on NEAC Final Four host Penn St. Abington in the other semifinal and the two winners will meet in the NEAC Final on Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday's winner will then receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.

How They Got Here:
Lancaster Bible: Lancaster Bible defeated Penn St. Berks, 4-1 on Tuesday in Reading, Pa…The Chargers scored all four goals in the first half, including two in the first 6:37…Senior Edward Bills scored twice, while junior Caleb Nelson and sophomore Dan Bewersdorff also scored…Sophomore Joel Hughes added two assists, while senior Thiago Naque made seven saves…The victory gave the Chargers 10 wins this season, marking the fourth straight season Lancaster Bible has won 10 or more games.
 
SUNY Poly:  The Wildcats defeated Morrisville State, 3-1 in Morrisville, N.Y. just six days after losing to the Mustangs in the regular season…SUNY Poly and Morrisville State each scored in the opening six minutes of Tuesday's quarterfinal and the game remained tied until 68:38 when Benjamin Alonge knocked home the game-winner…Alonge scored again with 6:06 remaining to put the game away for the Wildcats who are in the semifinals for the first time since the 2013 season when they won the NEAC Championship and went to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Leading Scorers:
Lancaster Bible:  Caleb Nelson and Edward Bills continue to lead the Chargers in scoring, as they each have 24 points this season…Nelson has 10 goals and four assists, while Bills has eight goals and eight assists…Freshman Rama Mugisha also has eight goals this season, while Dan Bewersdorff has four goals and three assists.
 
SUNY Poly: Benjamin Alonge leads the Wildcats, as he has 12 of the team's 32 goals this season…No other player on the roster has more than three goals, though eight players have scored two or more goals…Amadou Ndiaye leads SUNY Poly with eight assists.
 
Between the Pipes:
Lancaster Bible: Senior Thiago Naque has started 15 games for the Chargers this season, including the last 11 of Lancaster Bible's games…He has posted a 1.62 goals against average and has allowed seven goals in his past five games.
 
SUNY Poly: SUNY Poly has used two goalkeepers this season with Alexander Gigliotti starting 10 games and Nathan Laughlin starting seven…Gigliotti has posted a 1.36 goals against average, while Laughlin's is 1.65…Gigliotti played all 90 minutes against Morrisville State in the NEAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday.
 
Team Notes:
Lancaster Bible: This will be the fourth time in seven seasons that Lancaster Bible has appeared in the NEAC Semifinals…The Chargers are 1-2 in their previous three NEAC Semifinal appearances, with the victory coming in 2014 when they defeated Keuka, 1-0 in overtime to advance to the NEAC Final…Lancaster Bible is 5-5-1 in games away from Charger Field this season…These two teams last played on Sept. 23, 2016 with the Chargers earning a 3-1 win in Lancaster, Pa…In that game, the Chargers led, 1-0 at halftime and took a 2-0 lead on a penalty kick goal from Bills…SUNY Poly cut the deficit to 2-1 before Nelson scored with 4:43 to play to restore the Chargers' two-goal lead…The Wildcats led 22-16 in shots and 10-6 in shots on goal, though the Chargers had a 10-5 edge in corner kicks…Lancaster Bible will have to try and keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard, as SUNY Poly has scored 30 goals in its 10 wins and just twice in its eight losses.
 
SUNY Poly: The Wildcats opened the season with four straight losses, but have won seven of their past eight games heading into the NEAC Semifinals…In their past eight games, the Wildcats have scored 24 goals…SUNY Poly is 7-2 this season away from home and has won five straight road games…The Wildcats not only are 7-2 on the road, but have scored 2.44 goals in road games and just 1.11 in home games.
