Falcons Fly Past Chargers

The number 21 ranked team in NCAA Division III team visited Horst Athletic Center on Friday night and the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team did everything they could, but it wasn't enough, as Messiah downed the Chargers, 82-52. Lancaster Bible is now 2-3 overall, while Messiah is 6-0.

1st Quarter Highlights:
-Messiah took an early 12-6 lead after back-to-back baskets from Leah Springer, but Lancaster Bible's Kirsten Webster scored the game's next five points to cut the Chargers' deficit to one
-The Falcons answered right back with an 8-0 run of their own and eventually led, 24-14 after 10 minutes of play

2nd Quarter Highlights:
-Over the first 4:37 of the second quarter, Messiah used a 17-2 run to open the game wide open with a 41-16 advantage
-Lancaster Bible used a 10-2 run over the rest of the quarter to close the gap to 43-26 at halftime

3rd Quarter Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible continued to hang around in the contest, as each team scored 16 points in the third quarter with Messiah holding a 59-42 lead after 30 minutes of play

4th Quarter Highlights:
-Messiah opened the fourth quarter on an 11-0 run to grab a 70-42 advantage and put the Chargers away for good

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 21-of-61 (34.4 percent) from the floor, but just 4-of-13 from beyond the arc...Messiah shot 36-of-67 (53.7 percent) from the field and was 7-of-14 from 3-point range...Webster had a team-high 17 points and added three steals, while sophomore Caitlin Hickey had 13 points and five rebounds...Junior Courtney Goyak had 13 points, 14 rebounds and three steals, while freshman Lizzy Tilton had four points and three boards...Leah Springer had a game-high 22 points for the Falcons.

The Coach Says: "I thought we played well tonight," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "We competed hard for four quarters, but a good team takes advantage of your mistakes and that is exactly what Messiah did. They are a top 25 team for a reason and showed it tonight. We will continue to learn and get better from this."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 3-8 all-time against the Falcons...The Chargers lost 85-53 last season to Messiah in Grantham, Pa...Webster has led the Chargers in scoring in three of five games this season, after not accomplishing the feat one time last season.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible returns to North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Saturday, as the Chargers host Penn St. Berks at 4 p.m.
