The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team rebounded from a one-point loss on Friday night to defeat The College at Old Westbury, 97-81 on Saturday in the consolation game of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Tournament hosted by St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, N.Y. The victory sends the Chargers to 8-3 this season, while the Panthers fell to 3-6.
First Half Highlights:
-Both teams wasted little time getting their offenses into gear on Saturday, as the teams combined for 99 points in the opening 20 minutes
-Seniors Austin Brown and Herbie Brown knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Chargers a 6-3 lead two minutes into the contest
-The teams matched basket-for-basket over the next eight minutes with each team holding a lead no bigger than two points
-Senior Jalen Archer ended that with a 3-pointer with 10:19 to play to give Lancaster Bible a 27-23 lead, but it was short-lived, as Old Westbury's Terrin Roland matched Archer's 3-pointer on the Panthers' next possession
-Old Westbury took a 31-29 lead with 8:08 remaining, but Austin Brown drilled two straight 3-pointers to give the Chargers a four-point edge with seven minutes to play
-The Chargers continued to hold a slim lead, though began to build it late in the half...Lancaster Bible used a 6-2 run over the final 55 seconds to earn a 53-46 halftime edge, as junior Quentin Davis scored four of the six points for the Chargers
Second Half Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible continued to build its lead early in the second half, using a 11-4 run over the first 2:55 of the half to take a 64-50 advantage...Senior Bill Livezey began and capped the run with a layup, while Austin Brown knocked down yet another 3-pointer
-Old Westbury cut the Chargers' lead to nine with 13:42 to play, but Lancaster Bible went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by three straight layups, and earned a 73-58 lead with 10:57 to play on a layup from sophomore Luke Beers
-The Chargers maintained their double digit lead for much of the second half, though Old Westbury cut its deficit to seven on two occasions...Lancaster Bible responded each time, as the Chargers got to the basket at will for much of the day
-Lancaster Bible held the Panthers to just five points over the final four minutes and took its biggest lead with 1:03 to play on a layup from Tyler Norris
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 35-of-65 (53.8 percent) from the field and 9-of-23 from 3-point range...The Chargers had another solid day at the free throw line, shooting 18-of-24...Old Westbury shot 25-of-62 (40.3 percent) from the floor and just 6-of-20 (30 percent) from 3-point range...Davis finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting for the Chargers...Livezey added 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting and chipped in with four assists...Junior Christo Majok had 15 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals...Austin Brown finished with 12 points, while Herbie Brown had 10...Beers was the final player in double figures with 11 points...Alan McDonald had a game-high 23 points for Old Westbury.
