The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team overcame a slow second-half start and defeated St. Elizabeth 57-50, in Morristown, N.J. on Saturday afternoon. The victory propels the Chargers to 5-4 overall and 4-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Eagles dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in conference action.
1st Quarter Highlights:
-Both offenses struggled in the early minutes of the opening quarter, as junior Courtney Goyak tied the game at 4-4 on a layup with 6:48 to play in the first quarter
-The teams finally began to settle down and converted many of their chances the rest of the quarter, as Goyak connected for another layup with 23 seconds to play to give the Chargers a 16-15 lead after 10 minutes of action

2nd Quarter Highlights:
-St. Elizabeth began the 2
nd quarter well and took a 22-19 lead after a layup from Kamille Jacobs with 6:45 remaining in the half
-The Eagles eventually led, 25-21 after a 3-pointer from Damaris King with 3:42 to play, but it would be the last points of the half for the home team
-Lancaster Bible used a 10-0 run over the final 3:24, as five different players contributed points during the run to give Lancaster Bible a 31-25 halftime lead

3rd Quarter Highlights:
-The Chargers didn't score over the first 3:30 of the third quarter and St. Elizabeth took full advantage, going on a 9-0 run, that was capped by Rakiyah Sellers' 3-pointer, to give the Eagles a 34-31 advantage
-Lancaster Bible's offense finally woke up and the Chargers not only chipped away at the deficit, but took a 38-36 lead on a jumper from freshman Lizzy Tilton with 3:22 to play in the quarter
-Lancaster Bible took a 42-37 lead later in the quarter and eventually led, 45-41 after 30 minutes of play

4th Quarter Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible opened the fourth quarter on an 8-1 run over the first 2:30, taking a 53-42 lead on a 3-pointer from sophomore Caitlin Hickey
-Both teams went cold from the field again following the Hickey bucket, as the Chargers led 55-45 five minutes later
-Goyak hit her final layup of the game with 1:53 to play to give the Chargers a 10-point lead, 57-47 and the Chargers eventually won by seven.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 23-of-67 (34.3 percent) from the field, but just 1-of-12 from 3-point range…St. Elizabeth was 17-of-59 (28.8 percent) from the floor and 5-of-22 from beyond the arc…Goyak led the Chargers with 22 points and 27 rebounds, along with three assists and two steals…It was Goyak's second 20-20 game of the season, as nine of her 27 boards came on the offensive glass…Senior Kirsten Webster added 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals as she continued her strong start to the season…Hickey had 10 points, five boards and three assists, while Tilton had six points and two steals…Kamille Jacobs and Rakiyah Sellers each had 12 points for the Eagles.

The Coach Says: "Overall, we had a rough shooting day and couldn't finish well at the basket," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "It was a back and forth game until we put on our press and we were able to get some easy buckets. It's nice to get a win on the road to finish out conference play before Christmas."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 12-2 all-time against St. Elizabeth…The Chargers defeated the Eagles, 68-65 last season in Morristown, N.J. and then defeated the Eagles 67-57 in Lancaster, later in January…Lancaster Bible was 4-0 in NEAC play prior to Christmas last season as well…Since joining the NEAC for the 2011-12 season, Lancaster Bible has just two conference losses in the first semester, which came against Penn St. Harrisburg during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons…In first semester NEAC games all-time, the Chargers are 19-2…Goyak now has recorded a double-double in 38 straight games.
