Lancaster Bible & Bryn Athyn: Round 3

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team will host a home North Eastern Athletic Conference playoff game for the fourth straight season tonight at 8 p.m., but for the first time, it won't be the NEAC Final Four, as the Chargers welcome Bryn Athyn for a NEAC Quarterfinal.  Tuesday marks the first time Lancaster Bible will play in a NEAC Quarterfinal in program history, while Bryn Athyn is making its first NEAC playoff appearance in program history.

Team Records:
Bryn Athyn: 10-15, 8-12 NEAC
Lancaster Bible: 12-13, 12-8 NEAC

How They Got Here:
Bryn Athyn: The Lions have gone just 3-5 in February, but earned the third and final seed in the NEAC South Division due to winning a tie-breaker with Penn St. Abington which also finished 8-12 in conference play…After dropping its first four conference games of the second semester, Bryn Athyn won four of five, including big wins over Keuka and Wells in late January…The victory over Wells ended up being the tie-breaker between the Lions and Nittany Lions as Penn St. Abington lost to the Express during the regular season.

Lancaster Bible: The Chargers have been in second place in the NEAC South Division for much of the season and despite their up and down regular season, the Chargers clinched a conference playoff berth with three games remaining in the regular season…Lancaster Bible was basically in no-man's land in the NEAC South Division standings as the Chargers finished six games behind division-winner Gallaudet and four games ahead of Bryn Athyn.

Regular Season Contests Recap: The regular season games between the two teams went down to the wire as the Chargers came away victorious both times, but only by a combined four points…In the first meeting on Jan. 8 at Bryn Athyn, the Chargers trailed by as many as 10 in the first half before mounting a comeback, taking a lead and then eventually forcing overtime in the final minute of regulation…In overtime, the Chargers held Bryn Athyn to just six points and won, 68-65…In the rematch in Lancaster on Feb. 14, the Lions put on a shooting clinic from beyond the arc as they drained 18 3-pointers…But like the first meeting, Lancaster Bible trailed by double digits in the first half only to claw its way back into the game and take a lead in the second half…Freshman Brett Cataudella's layup with 19 seconds to play gave the Chargers a 74-73 lead and Lancaster Bible's defense didn't allow the Lions to get a shot off in the final seconds and won by the same margin.

Bryn Athyn Notes: The Lions are just 1-9 on the road this season with the lone win coming on Feb. 8 at Penn St. Berks…Bryn Athyn averages 68.8 points per game, but scored over 70 just twice in its final seven games…Following their 18 3-pointer outburst at Lancaster Bible on Feb. 14, the Lions have shot just 4-of-42 from distance…Bryn Athyn can get on hot streaks shooting the ball however as the Lions shot over 52 percent in a game three times this season, including an unreal 66.2% (45-of-68) mark against Penn College in December…In the matchup on Feb. 14, Troy Steed and Devante Laws combined to go 11-of-13 from beyond the arc, while Austin Nyekan added three 3-pointers.

Lancaster Bible Notes: The Chargers were 6-4 at home this season, including 5-1 during the second semester…Lancaster Bible is 8-1 all-time against Bryn Athyn, with the only loss coming during the 2013-14 season…The Chargers have been hot and cold from the floor all season long as Lancaster Bible has shot over 50 percent in a game eight times this season, but also shot under 40 percent 10 times this year…Moving the ball and finding the open man is key for the Chargers as Lancaster Bible is 6-1 in games where they record 17 assists or more…Lancaster Bible is 4-2 all-time in NEAC playoff games and is the reigning NEAC Champion.

Follow the Game: The game can be seen on the Chargers Sports Network beginning at 7:50 p.m.
