Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Rise Above Phoenix

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team earned a weekend split of its two games as the Chargers defeated Wilson, 77-53 on Sunday in Chambersburg, Pa. The victory sends the Chargers to 9-11 overall this season and 9-6 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while Wilson dropped to 5-16 overall and 5-12 in conference play.

How it Happened: Wilson actually jumped out to a 10-6 lead after 5:25 gone by in the first half, but the Chargers responded and went on a 16-0 run over the next 4:52 and grabbed a 22-10 lead. Five different players scored during the run, including 3-pointers from junior Herbie Brown and sophomore Jason Kuntzelman.

Lancaster Bible's lead grew to 15 just a few moments later as freshman Brett Cataudella completed a three-point play to give the Chargers a 27-12 advantage. The Chargers maintained their lead through the rest of the quarter and Herbie Brown's jumper with four seconds to play in the half gave Lancaster Bible a 39-26 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The Chargers struggled out of the gate in the second half and Wilson closed the Chargers' lead to just five, 45-40, with 13:28 to play. Lancaster Bible continued to fend off the Phoenix and with 10:16 left, Kuntzelman hit another 3-pointer to give the Chargers a 52-44 lead.

Minutes later, the Chargers used an 19-1 run to put the game out of reach as freshman Luke Beers fueled the run with nine points, including two 3-pointer and three-point play the old fashioned way. Four different players scored during the run and Lancaster Bible turned a 52-46 lead into a 71-47 advantage. The Chargers maintained their 20-point lead the rest of the way and a jumper by Danny Jackson in the final minute produced the final score.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 50 percent (33-of-66) from the floor, including 6-of-13 from 3-point range...Wilson shot just 29.2 percent (19-of-65) from the field and 5-of-28 from beyond the arc...Freshman Brett Cataudella led the Chargers with 16 points and 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes of play...Herbie Brown added 15 points and seven boards on 7-of-10 shooting...Kuntzelman finished with 13 points, while Beers added 10 points and four boards...Sophomore Quentin Davis chipped in with eight points and five boards on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting...Keion Adams had 16 points to pace the Phoenix.

The Coach Says: "We did things better offensively today," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Zach Filzen said. "We had good ball movement and got to the rim, some things we have been talking about for a while. I liked that we had balanced scoring and got contribution from lots of guys and I think there are still things we can improve on both offensively and defensively. We have to use this win to help us get ready for a couple of big games next week."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 5-1 all-time against Wilson...The Chargers lost to the Phoenix, 74-71 earlier this season in Lancaster...Lancaster Bible shot 50 percent or better for just the third time since the calendar turned to 2017...Lancaster Bible dominated the boards, 53-29 and also held a 52-18 scoring margin in the paint.
