The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team saw its record come back to the .500 mark on Tuesday as the Chargers lost to Keystone, 20-19 in overtime. The Chargers made a furious comeback in the second half as they trailed by seven at halftime, but Keystone won the opening draw of overtime and scored 33 seconds later to earn the one-goal victory. Lancaster Bible is now 2-2 this season, while the Giants upped their record to 2-2.
How it Happened: The Chargers'
Myranda Kemrer opened the scoring just 33 seconds into the game with her 11th goal of the year, but Keystone scored five goals over the next 6:50 to take an early four-goal advantage. Senior
Alyssa Wesner scored her 19th goal of the year at 21:42 off a pass from
Amber Moore to cut Lancaster Bible's deficit to 5-2, but Keystone scored three more times, and took an 8-2 lead with 10:11 to play in the opening half.
Wesner's 21st and 22nd goals of the year sandwiched around another Giants goal, as the Chargers trailed 9-4 with just over six minutes left. The Giants scored back-to-back goals to regain their seven-goal lead at 11-4 with 3:50 remaining. Lancaster Bible scored two of its own goals (
Hannah Thompson's 10th and Wesner's 23rd)Â in the next 1:05 and looked to have some momentum heading into halftime, but the Giants responded with two more goals in the final 2:23 of the half and led, 13-6 at the break.
The Chargers scored three of the first four goals in the second half and crept to within 14-9 as
Naomi Otis,
Katy Stover and
Barb Foster scored for Lancaster Bible. Like had happened all game long, Keystone responded with three straight goals, two of which came when they were shorthanded, and the Giants took their biggest lead of the game, 17-9 with 22:40 left in regulation.
Lancaster Bible took the game over from that point and scored the next five goals of the game over a 4:41 stretch. Otis, Stover and Thompson all scored once, while Wesner added two more goals. Keystone got a goal back and grabbed an 18-14 lead with 16:01 to play, but Lancaster Bible went right back on the offensive attack and scored four straight goals to tie the game at 18-18 with 4:03 left. Kemrer scored her second of the game to bring the Chargers to within three and Wesner scored the final three goals of the run to knot the game at 18 apiece.
Keystone retook the lead with 3:35 to play and Lancaster Bible was just about to run out of time, but Wesner scored her 10th goal of the game with six seconds remaining to tie the contest at 19-19. In overtime, Keystone won the draw and though they were a man down again, the Giants went right on the attack and Nina Hodanich was fouled. Hodanich converted her free-position shot 33 seconds into overtime to give Keystone the win.
