The Lancaster Bible College softball team took the field for the first time since returning home from spring break two weeks ago on Thursday as the Chargers dropped a pair of games to Albright in Reading, Pa. The Lions won game one, 8-0 in five innings and took game two, 9-3. The losses drop the Chargers to 3-11 this season, while Albright improved to 7-7.
Albright 8, Lancaster Bible 0 (5 innings) -- Game 1
How it Happened: The game was scoreless through two innings, as Lancaster Bible starter
Kelsey Collins worked out of a first inning jam and allowed only one baserunner in the second inning, but Albright had five hits and took advantage of an error en route to four runs in the bottom of the third. The Lions followed with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-0 and Lancaster Bible got its lone hit of the game in the top of the fifth as sophomore
Samantha Denson smacked a double.Â
Albright ended the game in the bottom half of the inning as the Lions scored to make it 8-0.
Inside the Box Score: Collins went 4 2/3 innings, allowing five earned runs and a walk, while striking out three...Lancaster Bible hitters struck out eight times.
Information Hodge Podge: Game marked the fourth time this season the Chargers have been held to one hit or less in a game...It was also the fourth time this season Lancaster Bible has been shutout.
Albright 9, Lancaster Bible 3 -- Game 2
How it Happened: The Chargers got on the board first in game two as sophomore
Zoie Senn doubled home freshman
Martina McCauley to give Lancaster Bible a 1-0 lead. The Lions responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning and the score remained, 2-1 through four innings.Â
Lancaster Bible retook the lead in the top of the fifth when senior
Julia D'Arrigo hit a two-run single that scored Senn and McCauley and gave the Chargers a 3-2 lead. The lead didn't last long however as the Lions scored six times in the bottom of the fifth and took an 8-3 lead that became 9-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
Inside the Box Score: Senn finished 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI...D'Arrigo was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI...Denson was 1-for-2, while
McKayla Smucker was 2-for-3...McCauley scored twice as well for the Chargers...McCauley took the loss as she allowed six earned runs in 4 1/3 innings...D'Arrigo pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up one earned run and three hits.
Information Hodge Podge: These were the first two games between Albright and Lancaster Bible.
