The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team, fresh off winning its first-ever season opener on Saturday at Bryn Mawr, opened the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday afternoon and suffered a 20-15 loss to Eastern at Charger Field. The Chargers are now 1-1 this season, while the Eagles improved to 1-2.
How it Happened: The high-scoring affair began immediately as each team scored in the first five minutes. Anna Charlebois got the Eagles on the board just 1:05 into the contest, and senior
Alyssa Wesner tied the game at 1-1 with 25:43 remaining in the first half. Eastern scored five of the next six goals and took a 6-2 lead on Julie Haggan's seventh goal of the year at the 18:58 mark.
Eastern extended its lead to 14-7 just before halftime as Haggan scored again with 35 seconds to play. Lancaster Bible was able to keep it a game in the first half as Wesner scored five times and sophomore
Hannah Thompson and junior
Raegan Horst added goals as well.
The Chargers stormed out of the gate in the second half and scored twice in the opening 22 seconds as Wesner picked up her sixth and seventh goals of the game. Junior
Myranda Kemrer added a goal four minutes later and cut the Chargers' deficit to four at 14-10. Eastern restored its six-goal lead on goals from Liz Brennan and Haggan.Â
After Lancaster Bible cut its deficit back to four, Eastern went on a 4-0 run and took a 20-12 lead with 7:40 to play. The Chargers scored three late goals, including the first of the season for senior
Katy Stover, and had chances to pull closer if not for some good goaltending by Eastern's Marcie Spencer.
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible finished with 25 shots on goal, while Eastern had 27...The Chargers collected 17 ground balls, while Eastern picked up 15...Lancaster Bible also held the edge in draw controls at 21-16...Wesner finished with seven goals and four ground balls, while Thompson and Kemrer each had three goals and an assist...Horst and Stover each picked up a goal and an assist as well for the Chargers...Sophomore
