On Saturday, for the third time this season, the Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team played an overtime game, but for the first time this season, the Chargers came away victorious and in the process, moved back to the .500 mark in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.Â
Sophomore
Hannah Thompson's game-winning goal just 16 seconds into overtime, propelled the Chargers past Wells, 14-13 at Charger Field. Lancaster Bible is now 6-7 overall this season and 3-3 in conference action. Wells, meanwhile, dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in NEACÂ play.Â
How it Happened: As has been the case for 11 of Lancaster Bible's 13 games this season, the Chargers opened the scoring, as Thompson scored 1:12 into the contest to give Lancaster Bible a 1-0 lead. Wells quickly took the momentum however, and scored the next five goals of the game. Junior
Raegan Horst broke an almost 14-minute scoring drought for the Chargers as she cut Lancaster Bible's deficit to three at 5-2 with 14:58 remaining in the opening half.
Two goals from senior
Alyssa Wesner and another from freshman
Barb Foster over the next four minutes after Horst's goal, knotted the game at 5-5 with 10:46 left. Wells made it 7-5 after goals from Mackenzie Maloney and Julia Smith, but Wesner scored with 1:15 remaining to cut the Chargers deficit to one, 7-6.
After being down by the same 7-6 score at halftime, the Lancaster Bible offense stormed out of the gate in the second half and scored the half's first five goals en route to an 11-7 lead with 18:20 to play. Senior
Katy Stover scored twice during the run, as did Wesner, who scored her program-record-tying 81st goal of the season to make it 11-7.
While things appeared to be going Lancaster Bible's way, Wells turned the tide again and scored five straight goals of its own over the next seven minutes and took a 12-11 advantage on a goal from Smith with 11:27 to play. Back-to-back goal from Kemrer and Stover restored Lancaster Bible's lead at 13-12, but Maloney scored with 5:40 left in regulation to tie the game at 13-13 and it stayed that way through the end of the second half.
Lancaster Bible won the draw to begin overtime and Wesner went down the field and found Thompson, who went to her left and shot the ball past Wells goalie Anna Bozeat to give the Chargers the victory.
