Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Zach Freeman

'Cats Clip Chargers, 15-14

The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team lost its third one-goal game of the season on Saturday, as the Chargers fell to SUNY Polytechnic, 15-14 in Utica, N.Y. The loss puts Lancaster Bible's North Eastern Athletic Conference playoff chances in deep trouble as the Chargers are in sixth place with two games remaining and no longer control their own destiny. Lancaster Bible is now 6-8 overall and 3-4 in NEAC play, while SUNY Poly is 7-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible opened the scoring 3:45 into the game on a goal from senior Naomi Otis and after SUNY Poly scored twice, the Chargers netted the next six goals. Senior Katy Stover and junior Myranda Kemrer scored 40 seconds apart to give the Chargers a 3-2 lead 11 1/2 minutes into the game and after a 7:20 scoring drought for both teams, senior Alyssa Wesner scored with 11:11 remaining in the first half to give the Chargers a 4-2 lead. The goal was Wesner's 82nd of the season, breaking the program-record for goals in a season.

Goals by Kemrer, freshman Barb Foster and Wesner gave Lancaster Bible a 7-2 lead with 8:43 left in the half, but the Wildcats responded with four goals in just over four minutes to make it a 7-6 game in favor of the Chargers. Wesner completed the hat trick with 37 seconds remaining in the half, but SUNY Poly scored twice in the final 12 seconds, including the tying goal with one second remaining, and the teams went to halftime knotted at 8-8.

SUNY Poly scored three of the first four goals of the second half to take an 11-9 lead midway through the half, but the Chargers scored four times in 2:24 to grab a 13-11 lead with 13:22 to play. Stover and Kemrer scored again for the Chargers, while sophomore Hannah Thompson scored her first two goals of the game during the run as well.

Lancaster Bible held the lead until the five-minute mark when SUNY Poly scored two quick goals to tie the game at 13-13. The Wildcats took the lead with 3:49 to play and added an insurance goal with 1:13 to play. Junior Raegan Horst scored for Lancaster Bible with 19 seconds to play, but the Chargers couldn't get the tying goal before the final buzzer.
