Bats Heat Up as Chargers Sweep Eagles

The Lancaster Bible College softball team had its best two offensive games of the season on Thursday as the Chargers took two games from St. Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J. The Chargers won game one, 8-2 and defeated the Eagles, 16-11 in game two. The victories propel the Chargers to 9-25 overall and 5-13 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Eagles fell to 7-25 overall and 4-12 in conference play.

Lancaster Bible 8, St. Elizabeth 2 -- Game 1
Game Notes:
After each team scored a run in the first inning, the Chargers scored three times in the second, as Julia D'Arrigo and Morgan Burkholder had RBI hits in the inning...Lancaster Bible scored three more times in the third inning as Burkholder stole home during the inning and D'Arrigo added another RBI...The Chargers scored again in the seventh as Burkholder scored another run to make it 8-2...Through it all, D'Arrigo pitched very well for the Chargers as she scattered eight hits and allowed two earned runs while striking out four.

Inside the Box Score: D'Arrigo was 1-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI...Zoie Senn was 2-for-4 for Lancaster Bible...Kayla Thoune was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored...Senior Kelsey Collins was 1-for-3 with an RBI...Martina McCauley was 1-for-1 with a run scored.

Lancaster Bible 16, St. Elizabeth 11 -- Game 2
Game Notes:
After going down 2-0 after one inning, the Chargers scored seven times in the top of the second inning and never looked back...McCauley and Senn each had two-run hits in the second inning as Lancaster Bible sent 11 batters to the plate...The Chargers scored three more times in the third and two more times in the fourth to take a 12-3 lead, but the Eagles cut into the Chargers' lead with six runs of their own in the fourth to make it a 12-9 game...Lancaster Bible scored three more times in the fifth to retake a six-run lead and eventually won by five.

Inside the Box Score: Burkholder finished 4-for-5 with four runs scored and an RBI...Samantha Denson was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored...McKayla Smucker was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored...D'Arrigo was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI...Senn was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI as the Chargers smashed 20 hits...McCauley was 1-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored...Caitlin March was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI...Elorah Starr also scored twice, while Savannah Sheaffer drew a walk.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible finishes the year 2-2 against St. Elizabeth as it was the Eagles who swept two games from the Chargers in Lancaster on April 14...Lancaster Bible is now 7-8 all-time against St. Elizabeth...The Chargers had double digit hits in each game, marking just the fourth and fifth times this season Lancaster Bible has connected for 10 or more hits in a game.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible will wrap-up its season on Saturday as the Chargers host Penn St. Berks at 1 p.m...It will be Senior Day as the Chargers honor Collins and D'Arrigo prior to the game.
