The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday as the Chargers downed Hilbert, 21-18 at Charger Field. The win, Lancaster Bible's first North Eastern Athletic Conference victory of the season, improves the Chargers to 4-5 this season and 1-2 in conference play, while Hilbert fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in NEAC play.
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible opened the scoring as senior
Alyssa Wesner netted her 51st goal of the season 36 seconds into the game to give the Chargers an early lead. Hilbert answered less than five minutes later to knot the game at 1-1, but the Chargers scored six goals in the next eight minutes to take a 7-2 lead. Wesner and junior
Myranda Kemrer each scored twice during the run, while senior
Naomi Otis and sophomore
Hannah Thompson also scored.Â
The Hawks responded quickly as they scored four unanswered goals in the next 2:28 to cut their deficit to 7-6. The scoring finally slowed down as the teams combined for just three goals in the final 12 minutes and it was the Chargers who grabbed a 9-7 lead heading into halftime. Lancaster Bible stormed out of the gate in the second half as the Chargers scored six of the first eight goals of the second half and built a 15-9 lead. Wesner had three of the six goals, while Otis, Kemrer and Stover also scored.Â
Hilbert reduced its deficit to four, 17-13 and 19-15 later in the half, but the Chargers continued to maintain control. Lancaster Bible even scored two shorthanded goals late in the second half as Wesner and Kemrer scored. Hilbert's Emily Gawlak put a bit of a scare into the Chargers in the final minute of play as she scored three times in a 26-second span to cut the Chargers' lead to two, 20-18, but Wesner put the game away with six seconds to play with her eighth goal of the game.
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible outshot Hilbert, 44-39, including 38-24 in shots on goal...The Chargers also held an 18-13 lead in ground balls, but the Hawks held a 24-18 edge in draw controls...Kemrer finished with five goals and five assists, while Wesner had eight goals...Thompson added two goals and four assists...Otis chipped in with three goals and an assist, while Stover had two goals and an assist...Junior Raegan Horst had the other goal for the Chargers...
