The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team ran into what look to be a very good DeSales team on Friday, as the Bulldogs defeated the Chargers, 7-0 in Center Valley, Pa. Friday marked the third straight season the Chargers have dropped their season opener and the second time in three years they have failed to score.
How it Happened: DeSales wasted no time getting on the board as Angelica Bertola scored at 9:49 off a pass from Rachel Medlar. The Bulldogs' Bernadette Haponski scored 1:21 later to double the lead and after assisting on the first two goals, Medlar added her own at 13:48 to give DeSales a 3-0 lead. The three goals came in just 3:59 and took the Chargers out of the game early.
Lancaster Bible recovered a bit after the goals and held DeSales scoreless for the rest of the first half, but Bertola scored her second goal of the game just 3:57 into the second half to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 4-0. Sophie Goad scored 1:14 later and Bertola completed her hat trick 6:01 after Goad's goal to make it a 6-0 contest. Gabby Lucchese finished the scoring for DeSales at the 68:32 mark.
