Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Nittany Lions Roar Past Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team dropped its second game in as many days on Saturday as the Chargers lost to Penn St. Harrisburg, 3-0 at Charger Field, a day after opening the season with a 7-0 loss at DeSales. Despite the loss on Saturday, the Chargers played much better than they did in the opener and generated several offensive chances in the second half, but could not convert.

How it Happened: Penn St. Harrisburg opened the scoring just 7:28 into the contest as Kristen Stark took a pass from Rachel Asper and scored into the lower right-hand side of the goal. The teams went back-and-forth with chances over the next 20 minutes, but it was the Nittany Lions who converted and doubled their lead as Tabitha Fake collected a loose ball just outside of the 18-yard area and drilled a shot up and over Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Rheeana Miles.

Lancaster Bible played even better in the second half and the only aspect of the game eluding the Chargers was the ability to score a goal. The Chargers had several chances to cut into the Nittany Lions' lead, but could never convert. Penn St. Harrisburg put the game away with 8:14 to play as Lauryn Six scored the first collegiate goal of her career to make it a 3-0 game.

By the Numbers: Both team registered 11 shots, though Penn St. Harrisburg held a 7-5 lead in shots on goal...The Nittany Lions also held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks...Miles made four saves for the Chargers...Senior Raegan Horst led the Chargers with five shots, while fellow senior Rachel Kumher had two shots on goal.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 6-5 all-time against Penn St. Harrisburg...The Chargers have been shutout in back-to-back games to start the season four times now in program history (2009, 2012, 2015, 2017)...The 2012 team lost its first two games and then won 17 of its last 20 and won the NEAC Championship...Lancaster Bible is now 4-12 all-time in its home openers...The Chargers have not won their home opener since the 2013 season when they blanked Baptist Bible (now Clarks Summit), 5-0...Saturday's loss also snaps Lancaster Bible's nine-game home winning streak which began after last season's home opener loss to Alvernia.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible travels to Reading, Pa. on Wednesday night to take on Alvernia at 7:30 p.m.
