The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team finally got on the scoreboard in 2017 on Wednesday night at Alvernia, but it was just short of what the Chargers needed and Lancaster Bible lost to the Crusaders, 2-1 in Reading, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-3 this season, while Alvernia is now 1-1-1.
How it Happened: The teams felt each other out in the opening 10 minutes as neither team registered a shot, but Lancaster Bible finally broke the streak as freshman
Karissa Akselsen sent a shot on target that caused Jess Plunkett to make her first save of the night. From that point however, Alvernia took hold of the first half and scored the game's first goal just five minutes later off a corner kick.
Clair Brier headed in a corner kick cross from Taylor Gough at the 17:07 mark to make it 1-0 in favor of the Crusaders and just 6:27 later, Alvernia doubled its lead on a goal from Maria Petrongolo.Â
Akselsen's shot ended up being the lone shot for the Chargers in the opening half as Alvernia registered eight and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Lancaster Bible registered another early shot in the second half, but it was sophomore goalkeeper Rheeana Miles who kept the Chargers in the game as she made three second half saves and seven total for the game. With just 10 minutes remaining, the Chargers earned a corner kick and senior
Raegan Horst crossed a ball into the box and junior
Kiersten Hatch was there to boot the ball into the back of the goal to cut the Chargers' deficit to one with 9:52 remaining.Â
Senior
Rachel Kumher had a chance with 4:21 to play, but Plunkett was there to make the save and Lancaster Bible couldn't generate another offensive chance before time ran out.
