The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team dropped its fourth straight game to open the 2017 season on Tuesday, as the Chargers lost to Lancaster County neighbor Franklin & Marshall, 2-0 at Charger Field. The Chargers are now 0-4 overall, while the Diplomats improved to 3-2.Â
How it Happened: Franklin & Marshall and Lancaster Bible battled to a scoreless first half and while the Diplomats had more possession of the ball, the Chargers hung right with Franklin & Marshall and generated a few scoring chances as well off free kicks.Â
Lancaster Bible looked to execute the same plan of - bend, don't break - in the second half as well, but the Diplomats quickly put that to rest as Franklin & Marshall scored 2:49 into the half on a goal by Reanna Leoni. Leoni took a crossing pass from Hannah Robertson and scored her fourth goal of the season.Â
The Diplomats controlled much of the play as well in the second half, but Lancaster Bible still continued to generate scoring chances when given the opportunity. The Chargers' best opportunity of the day came with just under 30 minutes remaining as senior
Raegan Horst worked the ball around two defenders and crossed the ball to
Madison Miller who tried to take the ball out of the error and sent the ball just wide of the goal.
Franklin & Marshall's Gabby Goodwin doubled the lead for the Diplomats at 72:41 on a feed from Kirsten Heine and though Lancaster Bible mustered two late shots on goal, it wasn't enough to crack goalkeeper Gabby Panayotakis.
By the Numbers: Franklin & Marshall led in shots, 12-6, including 9-2 in shots on goal...The Diplomats had eight corner kicks, while the Chargers did not register one...Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Rheanna Miles made six saves...Horst led the Chargers with four shots.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-2 all-time against Franklin & Marshall...This is the first time since the 2006 season that the Chargers have started 0-4...Lancaster Bible began the year 0-5 that season, before finishing 6-14.
